Hey guys I just purchased a rolling chasis with steering and complete brake system for my son and I to build. We have never done this before and are looking for a complete list of things we will need. I'm assuming I need to choose an engine first. At first we were told a 420cc predator would be a fast fun motor and would be disappointed in the 212cc predator. In my introduction I'm being told the 212 would be plenty. If that's the case we will definitely go with the 212. We don't have a set amount of money to spend but would like to be as cost effective as possible. If you all can help point us in the right direction it would be appreciated. Right now I'm looking for a complete list of everything we will need to complete the project and a good place to source parts. Thanks in advance!

The 212cc Predator should be plenty for that kart (at least for your son).
You can get it for $99 often, but $120 is standard price.
#60363 is the hemi that people seem to like
http://www.harborfreight.com/65-hp-212cc-ohv-horizontal-shaft-gas-engine-epa-60363.html

If you want a 420cc, get the ebay Powerland 420cc $170 shipped to your door.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PowerLand-PD420-Recoil-Start-16HP-Gas-Engine-Horizontal-Shaft-/282146424737

But not sure how it will fit on your kart?

So get the 212.

I don't know what else is missing.
Is there a sprocket on the back?
Is there a mounting plate for the engine?

You will need a clutch (CC - for short) and chain.

#40/41/420 10Teeth 3/4" Bore
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Go-Kart-Min...T-3-4-Bore-40-41-420-Chain-1041-/301854398721

#35 12Teeth 3/4" Bore
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Predator-En...soffType=SaleAndClearence&_trksid=p5731.m3795

Or a Torque converter (TC -for short... if it will fit) and a chain.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GO-KART-TOR...07d6f24&pid=100005&rk=2&rkt=6&sd=401038753796

Rear sprocket needs to match with chain and CC or TC sprocket.

They come in #35 or #40/41/420.

For $200 you can get a 212, a TC, and a Chain.
For $140 you can get a 212, a CC, and a Chain.

I like this chain breaker tool
http://www.farmandfleet.com/product...Yh_Yv8Q4wWmiDBh8Nvwg2a0w8R0kIpQzxYaAsGp8P8HAQ

Here are some chain options

http://www.farmandfleet.com/product...gAjGZuP1PFD0wm7JVbu8cEKPnEvcwpmWMYaAv7L8P8HAQ

Not exactly sure if a TC would be an easy fit or not.

Do you weld?
Can you fab stuff up?
Could you Modify the rear to accept the larger engine if needed?

You will probably need a cable to connect the pedal to the engine.

Well..before we can tell you what you need...we have to know what you have. Do you have brakes that work? A throttle cable ? If so...all you need is a Predator @ $100...with coupon from HF , a centrifugal clutch @ $20 , ( but we need you to count the teeth on your axle and give us your tire height so we can tell you what to buy) a chain..$10-$15 (or less)... ( we need to know the distance of tooth center tip to tip...of the sprocket ( should be 3/8" but possibly 1/2" for both the chain and clutch ).

Then finally a master link $2 or $3...and 4bolts, washers, and lock nuts to mount the engine...and you're ready to roll !!!!

We'll give you advice on sources when we know what you need..A picture of the rear end including sprocket and brake will help us..

I've decided to go with the 212cc predator. The braking system and steering system is complete. I need a motor, motor mounting plate and hardware, cc, rear sprocket since I don't have one currently, gas peddle, throttle cable, seat, and probably a smaller steering wheel bc the one that's on there is HUGE. Right now I'm focusing on motor, motor mount kit, cc, and rear sprocket. Basically I need links to buy those. If I'm missing anything please let me know. Here's a pic of the rear.

It popped up while I was typing.. How about a close up of the brake for giggles..you'll need a hub for that live axle so we'll need to know it's diameter and where it is keyed.

Could you please just wait until we find out what he needs before throwing out links to a dozen different places?

Sure thing, but these are the cheap ones with free shipping.
Or even perhaps options for local stores.
He asked for links.
I'm trying to teach him how to fish, instead of buying the Fish Filet Sandwich for the guy.

You can ask for somebody else to link to GoPowerSports later. LOL

He said there was no gas pedal.
Go karts are a great learning experience for fixing and fabricating.
It looks like your back axle has a 1" diameter. You will need a hub to mount the sprocket to, one that slides and bolts onto the axle.
Check GoPowerSports.com for go kart parts, they have pedals, chain, mourning plates, and the sprockets and hubs!
Go for #35 size chain, sprocket and clutch. You will need either a 60 tooth sprocket or a 72tooth one, the more teeth, the more torque but les top sped so it's your choice. With a 72 tooth and a 12 tooth clutch you get about 29mph with a "governed" (stock, no modifications) predator.

Sprocket hub example: http://www.gopowersports.com/sprocket-hub-1-round/
Split sprocket that would bolt onto the hub (split ones are easily changeable): https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai...ahUKEwii0fKNn_bOAhXH7SYKHTsFDUEQwg8IIQ&adurl=

Good luck and ask any questions you have here!
