It's just a custom wheel adapter... down boy!

I'm gonna take the 6" manco rims I'm getting tomorrow and make them work on a live axle.

Basically two inserts where the bearings go, one with an inner dia of 1" and the other with an inner dia of 3/4".

Press them in, then either drill out the 6 holes they usually use for a sprocket, or just 3 long bolts to attach it to a specially modified hub for the live axle. It's just another set of wheels for sarge really. Skinny dirt tires. Slicks suck for the dirt.

I can do that, I have lots of 6061 aluminum round stock that I can use to make them out of and I have presses to press them in with too, bring the wheels to me.

What the heck DOES a slow moving radioactive symbol look like????

And does it mean : "Walk away quickly.....and take your mule and buggy with ya? JK....

Yeah...I know....I don't have any precision machinery equipment...but so many times....I know I could make something....but there's no way they can....because they don't even have the the crappy entry level equipment I do.....and it would take YEARS for them to develop the skills.....

Update:

Laptop blew up so it's onto the house computer (a dog slow turd)

Anyway, a trip to Daron's place to pick up those manco 6" ers.

You can't complain if stuff is free, I know... but these needed some a-cleaning up. A huge thanks to him for tossing them my way. We talked the talk for a bit and I gave him a few goodies for his ride. It's quite well done, way better than I'd ever do... then again, they (just like Bret's ride) are just different stores.

These babies... have seen a lifetime of use, and I think even longer sitting somewhere wet. Talk about aluminum powder everywhere. One of the tubes had WATER in it. It weighed a bit. LOL

So, a few pics of the clean up of these wheels. 4 hours later... we have something usable.

The pics are in order... 2 dremel wire wheels later and two applications of paint stripper... then more sand paper... and, well. You know.

Time for the JB weld to fix this minor chip.

oh yes... that blue wheel... I'm not sure what paint that is, or was... but it's quite the stuff. It literally stained one wheel in some crazy chemical reaction is my guess. Probably imron or something.

Next in a series of updates.

While coming home, I stopped at the hardware store to get a dremel bit & some items. While there, the snow tires were on my mind.

I swung over to the lawn & garden area to look at the tires some had.

You see, to put snow tires on Sarge, there's a minimum wheel diameter I can go with here... unless I want to remove the scrubs that is... which I don't.

So it's 11.5" to 12.5" diameter I have to deal with.

In my research so far, snow blower tires don't come in 5" jobbies. I have found 4, 6, 8 and up. 6 are too tall, so the 4" caught my eye.

In the hardware store, I found a few snow blowers sporting these neat 4" kenda treads.

Of course, no camera or tape measure with me, so I found a used box & ripped a piece from it and measured the height. The fold seen is the height of these tires in the store. They also seem to come in two tread types, each just nifty for some sheet metal hex screws as Brett suggested. One of the example pics is just of the tread, wrong size. But you get the idea.

I took my makeshift measurement home and guess what, they'll do it.

So... 4" rims in the back and some cushy snow tires for a start. Yep.

Time to by some....

And this means... Bret, I'll need to get your help. 4 custom hubs. 2 for the 6" rims mentioned above and 2 smaller for these 4" jobs I'm gonna try.

Update: The morning after.

Getting pretty good at this JB weld wheel fixing... One application nailed it.

Some more sanding, etc. and onto the wheel hub mods.
