And people wonder why I hate certain grades of stainless steel.....

I didn't get as sliced up as J, but I had a :censored: up incident this afternoon...

Photo one show's the bird's nest after the duck and cover. That's where I got the slices on finger's on both hand's defending my face. Those only got band aids to keep them clean until they clotted. Photo two shows the part I was turning.

The material is 304 stainless steel, and its so gummy that the chip's don't snap off, they just snarl up in a scalpel sharp mess. And most of the chip's in the photo came from the bottom of the chip tray, ~two feet below the spindle. They got pulled up through the honey comb in the bed.

From the time the fresh chip snagged the chuck till I shut down the lathe was only a few seconds......:surrender:  :ack2:

Oh, and I was still bleeding when the phone came out to snap the pics...

Have a nice scar on my left ring finger whrre I sliced half way through the tendon. Superglue and lots of cussing lol. Saw my dr a few weeks later and he just shakes his head and checks the fingers movement. All good now.

I have one like that on my right middle finger, treated at the hospital (so, it looks a little neater)...

Bad news, I severed the tendon completely (surgically repaired); worse news, it happened two hours into my first day on the job...

Can't even see the scars from the surgery, surgeon was brilliant...

Lady was a recent divorcee.....so maybe I've scored twice! !!! We'll see....

EDIT: Forgot to mention....this is an electric start lawnmower.....(which I've been looking for for my 83 year old mother) ....

Its one of the hazard's in my line of work. And I don't have the option of trying to pawn that type of headache off on anyone else at work, because I'm the only toolmaker in the shop, and this is one of the one off's that are my stock and trade...

Being able to do as much as I do, as well as being willing to actually work has earned me a few enemies at work, but way more supporters. The guy who I replaced when he retired wasn't interested in working, and management was preparing to let the tool room go extinct. That means I have a lot of less than stellar machines in my corner. I'm getting around that by begging time and access to machines in the main machine shop, which has earned me major black marks with the union steward. The fact that I have no problem with that can be summed up in a knock down argument between him and our CEO and the head of the engineering dept.

I got handed a part 24" ×40". To big ×2 1/2 for anything in my corner, so I cleared using one of the CNC's for the job. The steward filed a grievance about how I was in charge of the toolroom, and not allowed to run production machines anymore.

The CEO and engineering told him flat out that I wasn't in charge of the toolroom, I was the toolroom, and if I needed the machine for a project, I was going to have it..... :wai: :wai:

That was ~6 months ago......:roflol:

I'm thinking of buying a 4x4... used of course. hopefully the feeling goes away soon. lol

I read that post, and the image that comes to mind was a poster I saw somewhere that had Darth Vader on the left saying "Come, join the dark side....." with the cookie monster from Sesame St standing next to him completing the sentance with "and get free cookie's!!!!!!"

Wait, your mother mows her own lawns? You don't do it for her?

My 84yo mother can't even see her lawns :lolgoku:

This is Texas...being female doesn't give you a free ride to be a sissy..:lolgoku:

She's still in pretty good shape...she's trying to tell me she doesn't need the electric start.....until this year....she didn't have self-propelled....

Now.....as far as doing it for her....I'm an old single man with no money and more problems and projects than I can handle....

I'm the child out of six that has the least amount of time or money to help her out.....and I still do more than the others...

And....before I gave her the Toro self-propelled....they were gonna drop $350-$400 on a new mower...That's pretty close to a season of farming out the mowing....ALSO....don't underestimate the benefits of older people staying active......(You sit....you die) ....

Finally, she taught me hard work never killed anybody....and she has outworked SOOOOOO many people in her life...(and....she's STILL working....and laments about the days when she can't...).....

You know, I don't care about people using my tools and stuff, as long as they know how to use them.. if you don't break/ruin my tools you can use them all you want. I had someone borrow a large number 6 hand plane and told the buttjack to check the wood for nails or screws before. And I walked away and he started on his project. [I was at his house, brought over the plane] and I walk back outside and he has this look on his face. :censored::censored: He not only hit like every screw head possible in this old wood... HE NEVER CHECKED "Bro I didn't know!" smh. the iron was pretty much ruined without some sort of belt sander to fix it. Never the least, he hasn't paid for the ruined iron. there for he hasn't touched one of my tools again, and he's begged many times after this.

But if someone know's how to use something.. why are you gonna tell them "NO YOU CANT USE IT THIS IS MY MACHINE!" just out of spite. its like kindergarten and crayons.. you can only use the odd color crayons.. not the standard colors... :mad2: Sounds like a good hand full of people at your work need to grow the **** up. I would understand if you're using the CNC machine and jamming tools into work pieces.... but you're not.

Today sucked. Got into a goped accident. Landscaping guys down the street left rocks in the street and it was in a turn. Hit it going 30+ back tire slid out and I ate it. All the skin gone on my knees and forearms. Ouch. Now the adrenaline is wearing off and Everything is burning
