Wait... Just wait......

self employed... what else ;)
And yes, a single unpaid job of significant monetary volume had me change my practice for that matter...
I simply cannot afford not getting paid.

okay let's change topics;
I just deleted a full scale rant;
figured it's time to allow the moods to lighten up in here :D

Give Doug a few minutes; about the time he pop's a gasket on one of his neighbors, we won't hear the end of it for a couple of days........

While the weather around here today was quite nice...
my day was a PITA!

Got a customer call today... uhm how to I describe that...

Okay,

he ordered an oil painting (no he didn't... but that's a great analogy)
and asked for lots of trees, a lake, bright colors and a deer...
(and he actually gave me a picture for reference)
So the last two weeks I spend my time sketching that thing, contouring the lines and shading in the trees looking at deer photos to get the colors right etc..
then yesterday I asked if I should add flowers to increase the number of bright colors,
together with a snapshot of the current state.

He called and said that's not what he wanted, he wanted a rather technical drawing, very reduced colors.. something like a skyline... concrete and steel, maybe glass nothing else.

Basically two weeks of work down the drain...
worst thing about it: we agreed upon a fixed price (something I don't do often.. NOW I know why!)

So, instead of enjoying the sun and/or the weekend,
I was back at my scaffold starting from scratch :)

Lol I think it was a sort of anaology for those non computer literate among us.

Basically they first said that they wanted a besutiful website made, tons of colors, etc. Then they turned around and said mo they want it clean, bear, with an almost blueprint style look.

That about sum it up 'sid?

Well....the chicken is MIA.... haven't found any feathers....so I guess she just wandered off...

Easy come...easy go....but I had just bought 4 lbs. of chicken scratch and 1/2 pound of oyster shells + a bale of straw that afternoon for her and her coming coop and run....

WOW! What a day I had yesterday!

In an effort to downsize & declutter, I've been selling off some of my unnecessary but useful clutter from my garage, two days ago, I placed 4 ads on gumtree (online classifieds); within minutes, the phone was ringing with different offers for all the ads; I even had txt messages from someone about the car stereo head unit asking if I could install it in their car; I said yes.. for a price...

Yesterday was when all the fun started; still getting calls & txt messages, I received a call from someone interested in a non running pocket bike; I took it to them (literally a few streets away), they inspected, we chatted &, with no haggling, he handed over $50...

A few hours later, just as I was finishing up my payday running around (plus a few extras that needed doing), I was notified that the buyer of the car stereo was on their way; SHE arrived, we sorted what was needed & I set to work; a simple install, plug in patch harnesses & screw in factory brackets &, an hour later, we had sound. Feeling generous & said "just give me $50 (the price I had on the unit) & we'll call it square." She said "NO WAY!" & handed me $100 :smiley_omg: No point trying to argue, I wouldn't win :lolgoku:

While all that was happening, yet another txt came in about a pair of speakers, offered $20 on a $30 item so I said "yeah, ok"; he arrived about 2 hours later...

The final sale was one that I was sad to see go but, happy to see go at the same time; my first build, my daughters kart... It's been sitting, unused, untouched for around 2 years, gathering dust & taking up space...

While I was eating dinner, the phone rings (how rude); "I'm calling about the go kart for sale." "I'm eating my dinner so, I'll call you back"...

The guy wanted it for his 6yo son; perfect size but, the kid's a revhead (speed freak); he came & looked & was happy with it (he actually complemented me on the build over the phone) & handed over $250 of the $300 asking price...

All in all, a busy yet productive day, enjoyable on some points, sad on others... The upsides? I have money in my pocket & space in my garage...

I thought you were a code monkey, not an artist.

exactly... but how to describe code works in a language non coders can decipher?

My painting or let's rather say drawing skills are detectable but not too prominent.

I just thought that'd make up a nice analogy for what I was facing.

Except that's not crazy enough...."This just in: White Settlement man arrested for shooting pigeons with a Manlincher? (sp.-sorry) Carcano on the grassy knoll at Dealy Plaza from the 5th floor of the Texas Book Depository.....

When asked why he did it, he stated: "Well....see....the way I got it figured....we gots lots of pigeons....but not so many Kennedys anymore...."

He's being held without bail in the Dallas Co. Jail...pending psychiatric evaluation.....

When asked if he regretted his decision to do this, his response was: "Naw,...heck no....they taste just like iguana! "

My day was amazing!

So I go to lowes to get a longer bolt, and washers for spacers for the black betty kart, and as I'm looking I glance down...

$1,175 sitting on the floor...

I bend down, pick it up, count it, put it in my pocket (I know some of you will say I should have turned it in, but I'm from one of the poorest cities in the state, this is about 2/3 of what I make in a month...)

I sit in the hardware aisle for about another half hour picking out nuts and bolts and washers...no one comes down the aisle.

I walk through the entire store looking for anyone that might look like they are searching for money they dropped...no one.

I check out and look around the parking lot, no one looks out of place/like they're looking for something they dropped...

I go home.

On top of that today is pay day for me.

I might just keep black betty now, and still have enough for my build off entry/the parts I need to get it up and rolling.

Ya I feel a little bad...but at the same time this is like a godsend to me...

On top of that I have a guy that wants me to do a tile job for his kitchen, $1500 labor, and should take 2 days tops.

I'm a happy Karter right now...

You should donate some of that windfall to 'The Poboy Fund'....

Personally, ....I would have turned it in....in...into Poboy's cash!!!$

Well...this morning Sammy (my big long haired gray cat) was freaking out looking at a pile of crap next to my amplifiers....so I go digging through all of it to show him he's freaking out over nothing....an hour later....I'm on the phone with my mom, telling her about it....when I look down behind those amps and see that 4 1/2 - 5' rat snake...."Gotta go mom!"

Needless to say, Felix is back in the cage....but it's almost like starting from scratch now in the taming process.....

Ooooooh.....would he ever have taken a hunk out of me if I had let him....

So basically you could have come home to a dead one or the other

Naw....I put Oscar (my other full grown rat snake) and Sammy face to face once....Sammy popped Oscar with a paw....so Oscar popped Sammy in the nose without biting...but Sammy got the message....and doesn't want nothing to do with any Texas Rat Snakes......

And unless they feel cornered or threatened...a rat snake is going to run and hide.....

Besides, Sammy is a semi-wild outdoor cat....who only comes into eat....and sometimes sleep and cuddle when the weather is bad....

So he doesn't stay in the house.....

:ack2: Many of the regulars around here know that I accepted the tool room position at my employer ~8 months ago. Most of the really small jobs are in the range of 15 minutes or less. There's usually a constant mix of larger repair/fab new/replace type stuff to be interesting (not even counting when I get pulled to try and cover a gap somewhere).

When things get just a little bit to interesting is when I have to figure out how to make something totally brand new.

The latest, "Uhhhmmm" project stems from simple growing pains: we have an old 1950's vintage vertical lathe that was retro'ed into a CNC back in the 1980's.To say that it might have issues is a massive understatement.

Where my life gets way to complicated is when I have to fab tooling for it's replacement. It can swing a part both 20+ inches in dia. bigger than the old one. That means that almost all of the old tooling won't work. The base assembly for just one op needs to go from 12" to over19.5" The largest dia.I can swing on any standard lathe in the toolroom is 16."

I've already got an idea how to get this done.... Just not tonight.... :ack2:

Just so you know: What you are describing is, by definition, felony larceny in the state of Michigan and is punishable by up to ten years in prison. You need to turn that money into the police IMMEDIATELY if you value your freedom.

If it were easily identifiable as to whom the owner was, then yes that would hold true. Since there are only cameras at the entrances of the lowes here, and there was no form of identification with the money (i.e. in a wallet/purse/bank envelope with receipt ) it is not easily identifiable as to whom the owner was.

On top of that I called the store yesterday, and today asking if anyone had been looking for a lost sum of money. I was told both times that nothing had been reported.

On top of that... I really don't care. Not in a mean way, but come on, someone drops that much money, and hasn't asked management at the store if it was found there? On top of that if anyone (extremely unlikely as it may be) was to attempt to prosecute me for finding money, they would have to fulfill the burden of proof. How would they go about proving that as there are no cameras in any aisles, the hardware aisle is at the very end, and the entire time I was in the aisle no one came down it, or walked passed.

I'm really not worried about it. That money paid a bill I had been struggling on, and allowed me to fix the family vehicle before it was unfixable, and yes its going to allow me a little leway on finishing my kart, as well as possibly doing something nice for my kids.

Hate me or not, it was a godsend.
