Right, progress! :D

I noticed that at the front of the engine, there is something bolted on (see picture). What is it?

IDK what that little box actually does, but its part of the low oil sensor, which shuts off the engine when it doesn't detect any in the crankcase. When you go around a corner in your go kart, the oil sloshes to the side, and the sensor doesn't detect anything, so it shuts the engine off.Theres a sticky on it here http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17624 which should help .

Yes that`s what I thought it was. When I open the engine up I`m going to remove the low oil sensor and the governor.

Anyhow, I`m now looking for a seat for the Kart. This is going to be doing quite a lot of off roading in fields, really stony lanes etc so I`d like it to be comfortable, cheap (under £40) and available in the UK. BMI Karts do have something of what I`m looking for - http://www.bmikarts.com/Plain-Black-Single-Seat-_p_1241.htm but it isn`t in the UK so shipping price is sky high.

Btw if you have any suggestions, I`d like it to be black vinyl.

Urgent Engine Questions

Cracked open the engine, took side cover off to remove governor. Got the metal arm with the elbow off but can`t seem to get the plastic gear out??

Also, should I remove crankshaft, piston and conrod and clean the engine out as I think there could be a bit of gasket in there.

Someone please reply as I`d like to get the engine going by Saturday

You don't really need to remove the internals to give it a clean. It is not too hard to do so though, so it is up to you.

Post a pic of the plastic gear for some more help

Thanks Landuse. I think I will remove the internals and clean it because it was very poorly looked after, I believe that when I got it (2 yrs ago) it was still on it`s original oil. I think all the gaskets are original too.

Anyway here is the plastic gear:

And here is my custom air filter adaptor:

Nearly finished. Got the plastic gear removed, governor arm hole plugged with a 1/4" bolt and engine all back together. Just needs oil and she`ll run. (BTW I fixed the throttle rod problem). What`s really left to do is,

Tighten up Front Wheels
Tighten up the front axle onto the main frame
Add a kill switch to the steering collum
Add seat
Add oil to motor
Fix clutch
Add clutch
Tighten brakes

Go For A Drive!!!! :D

Step away from the little box you pictured. You need it!that little box with 1 wire coming out of it is the ignition control module, no box = no spark!

I hope I stopped you in time.

I now have a rolling chassis

Tried to start the engine yesterday but I noticed there was fuel leaking out of the carb. Gonna take the carb off and have a look

Got some hold-ups :2guns::2guns::2guns::2guns::censored:

First, I was attaching the throttle cable, when the cable snapped

Second, Centrifugal Clutch is knackered. I knew it was done but I thought it might last. Not a bit of it!!! :2guns:  It`s so worn that the shoes don`t engage, the spring is really stretched and everything is just really really worn.

So yeah, got to get a throttle cable and order a clutch. Should be going by next saturday though

And tomorrow is now today. :D Did you get it done yet?

If you wanted t, you could have bought new internals for your old clutch, but new ones are cheap enough for it not to matter too much.

You must be looking forward to zooming down the road in your kart

Yeah well I`ve nearly got it done. Just need to hook up throttle and finish bolting the engine down. The reason it`s taking so long is because I`m very busy and when it is minus 2 or 3 C it really slows down work.
