What if you cut the camshaft in 1/2 between the lobes and then rotated the lobes to the correct timing and weld the cam back together, then cut a new keyway in the flywheel for the spark timeing. seem's fairly simple. if you have a lathe and mill.

You are re-engineering the camshaft which is what I clearly stated would have to be done from the beginning of this thread.
Spark timing need not be altered to reverse ports.

Here is a reversed image of pic 1. Only this profile will work.

Thats what I was trying to explain in my post #54 but a picture says it better ;)

I think one of these cams would be the easiest to rotate lobes on...

This kind would need the lobes seperated..

:horse: Russ, I'm just jacking around, to show the complexity of doing something so useless. and to see just how far this dumb thread will go.

in conclusion: get a twostoke. :D valves are fo chumps

edit: except for valves on a twostroke diesel... they're cool

Yeah, two strokes, as far as power performance goes, is far better than 4 stroke.

Original poster wanted to turn timing out by 180 degrees with the expectation that he could swap ports.
I posted that it will not work.
Another poster said a plastic cam can be turned around on its shaft with expectation (again) that he could swap ports.
Again I said it won't work.
Nothing short of re-engineering cam profile is capable of producing the desired result.
I have demonstrated such with pictures.
Refer posts #79, 80.

Rotating the cam 180* does nothing, the piston goes up and down twice every time the cam goes around once, so it will still suck through the same valve as before, so reversing your carb and exhaust will just make it blow out the carb and suck in the exhaust. you need a compleatly differant cam. The thing about a small engine is the spark plug fires on the exhaust stroke also. The timing mark on crank and cam are so the spark is fired at correct time in the compression phase of the cycle.

So rotate the engine in reverse?
