Instead of asking about it . Why don't you just do it with YOUR engine? Do a vidieo on it and show us just how inovative you really are. Then explaine to us how many use's there are for this idea.

ok, i am by no means taking a stand against you guys claiming i can do all these things to my engine and make some kind of time machine.

im exploring the ideas how to get this engine to run... just run.

so far it hasnt run.

i have got a million things to do and as much as i wish i could, i cant sit in a lab building engines with funky camshafts and stuff.

thank you everyone who has replied.. ive read it all and i learned alot. one thing is sure, i CANT rotate the camshaft a half turn to reverse the ports.

but i almost want to make a camshaft that is reversed just for kicks. got to get the engine suitable first.

i might just keep it vertical for this....

Still won't work...Lol

I'm sure it will.

Food for thought (or just a plain coincidence), a few years ago I had a modified GX200 with a bad needle in the carb (flooded it out like hell, gas dripping out of the vstack, everything)... but it still ran!

Now it was running RICH as hell (lots of white smoke), and when I attempted to kill it (kill switch), I flicked it off, then back on. Somehow, it backfired (high compression head, flattop piston, thinner head gasket), and began to run BACKWARDS!

It was obvious as now the white smoke began coughing out the airfilter LOL. It did that for 4-5 rotations (very slow rotations) before I killed it once more...

I don't see why it wouldn't work. A Briggs cam shouldn't hinder it.

Starting to go in the right direction here, I feel.

Here's a gif from Wikipedia of a 4 stroke engine operating, for those who can't visualize it:

If you reverse it, it's fundamentally the exact same thing with the valves switched, however you have to get into the little things as well. Say the ignition is 20 degrees bdc, if you spin it the other way your timing will be severely retarded. Not sure if you could flip your flywheel over to fix that or not. And any valve timing/sizing 'intricacies' wouldn't do much good as well.

We're getting way off topic here.
OP's original assumption will not work with anything short of a different camshaft profile.
I do not care how good you are...I do not care how much experience you have... I do not care how old you are... The truth is, it cannot be done, no matter what your expertise.
The only thing Mr. Sideways can do is prove me correct.

IT WILL NOT WORK ROTATING THE CAMSHAFT HALF TURN!!

i get that!!

but it CAN be done if the camshaft is redesigned!

end of story. :bannana:

he'll proberly take 4 weeks to do it but i garuntee he'll show up with a working model in the end

That gives me 2 weeks then. I am certainly not a quick worker haha.

Sorry for the longtime waiting, I've been elsewhere. Going up to Bunbury again in a few days too.

I haven't found another Briggs mower (I don't have a spare) so I might just do it to my 4HP (of horizontal conversion fame). I've made up the new inlet manifold and pull starter already(dunno if it'l fit the 4HP though, **** side starter!!:mad2:), started on the new ignition system, the 4HP is points though which is a pain.

As for the cam, the plastic mower ones I've seen have the 2 cam profiles separate, if you swap those around then it'd work, that's what I meant before. ;) I've never seen one like you describe, I avoid Briggs if I can though, especially modern ones. I do like to experiment on them though. :devil2:

At no cost?
I'll give you my house if you can do it.

That's a project I started a long time ago, might have to dig that one up again. ;) It's one of those projects I've always wanted to do, along with converting an engine to rotary valve and piston valve. There's about a million ones I want to do haha.

I'm sure it will.

A similar thing happened with my old Honda G200(my first engine!:D) , I poured some fuel down the plug hole and some of it must of gotten in to the muffler because when I gave it a pull it back fired (unknown to me then, it had a sheared flywheel key) and continued to chug over backwards for about 10 seconds. It certainly made me go WTF haha.

See you all again in 2 weeks hay? :D

Thanks

Hayden
