Why not just make an adapter that has one set of holes lined up with the holes on the engine, then another set of holes that is set so you can put the carb in the correct orientation. Seems like a lot less work than reversing the valves.

alright.

run the engine backwards? lol

well the connecting rod is in backwards already i think.

maybe ill just take the time to make a manifold.

i think it literaly makes the piston move opposite of normal. insted of it being on a power stroke it would then be on exhaust stroke? wich would reverse the air flow so it sucks through the exhaust port and blows out the intake. wich when you switch the exhaust and intake around should work. right?

Remove a side cover from any of your engines and turn the cam 180° out.
Now, manually rotate crankshaft by hand (in the proper direction) and note how the cycles (strokes) progress.
Let us know what you discover.

lols just cut the manifold and join the two bits together with a piece of rubber hose and hose clamps.

flexi carb manifold is better than solid anyway

thats why motorbikes mostly all have rubber boots insted of the carb mounted solid to the engine

then again i may not know what im talking about:D

edit: here is a picture

what if he proves you wrong?
Who? Sideways? Not hardly.
No one will prove me wrong.
Prove it to yourself by doing what I suggested in post #26.
Would require a totally redesigned camshaft.
Lobes would have to be reversed.
What would a machine shop charge??
I would buy a clone before I would jump into such an endeavour.

If the exhaust and intake valves are identical and you really wanted do do it this way, just get a custom cam ground with the intake and exhaust lobes swapped engine rotation and power would be the same, but now the exhaust port would be the intake.

This trick was done on old Buick nailhead engines because the exhaust ports had a larger valve and much better flow. On the one I saw it had 2 2 barrel carbs on either side of the engine and 8 exhaust stacks sticking straight out of the center of the hood

^ but why the heck would you want to do that just so you could use a stock lawnmower carb manifold?

haha

I think this thread has proved that arguing with a fool will only drag you down to their level, Let Blue screw up his engine. Its the only way some peopl learn.

I disagree. He has to learn to think it through.
If reversing ports were that simple, B&S would have done it (along with all other manufactrers) long before now.

Every bike I have torn into uses carb boots because the engine and carb are shoehorned in so tight that carb (or indeed, engine) replacement would be virtually impossible any other way.
