I have to ask: are the kids going to be able to drive it, or is Dad going to be "testing" it a lot ........?

. o O (Man, maybe I should have this guy build a kart for me ...)

Awesome work, good pictoral of the build.

Now that you mention it, just the other day i found a deal i couldn't pass up, a neighbor had a 125 honda fourtrax that was in pretty sad shape, i told him if he ever wanted to get rid of it to call me he did and 60 bux later it was mine, lotsa cables rusted up, cracked plastic, missing handlebars... cleaned up the carb & plug, fired right up! looks like dad might "test drive" it a bit more, at least till they get older! have to put a pic of it up!

I really like the design. I might have to do something similar. It;s looking like a full independant suspension is going to be a big pain in my ***.

next step

I Solved my no spark and neutral light prob, hot wire had broken off the back of the switch, found a handa manual online PDF ($6.95 later) had wrong wire going to coil. I have some more pics, first , here's a pic of the fourtrax I spoke of in my last post (pretty big smile there) and of the kart with the fuel tank i chose( anyone guess??? what it was) and a maiden ride found where my next remanufacture section will be, the mount for the jackshaft bearing was way to light, needs beefed up ALOT ! well for some reason i cant post pics right now! next time!

full rear suspension would be a major thing to fab up, u-joints, brakes, shocks ...

Well I think i have figured out my picture posting problem so here goes, It seems that no matter how tight i get the chain, it slips, don't know if there is flex in the frame,or the axel or the motor mount, but i need to find out!
Wondering if 1" axel would flex if the bearings were 23" apart, anyone know?

Here's the almost done fourtrax for the boys, got the fuel tank
done, now if i could get the slipping chain problem fixed i'd be doing fine.
Just today found a 1000cc bike motor for $200, awfull tempting!
it's a shaft drive, don't know how i'd get the power to the rear tires.
It would haul, HMMMMMM

This kind of setup would be best for the rear drive, might be tricky to build it tho!

Your jack shaft is at a angle, and you need a bearing near your axle sprocket.

Yup, both bearings are at different heights and its angled funny, you may have to shim the pillow block up a bit.

I have a 1982 Xl125S dirtbike and the engine looks almost identical. You need a breather on that crankcase/transimison breather ASAP!

Well that picture was before the rebuild, showing that it was waaaay to light, here is the rebuilt jackshaft brace, but the chain still slips. today i used my 35 tooth sprocket ,straight to the axel and it was much better, 35 tooth is way to small though, only problem is to tighten the chain i had to redo the rear motor mount to be slotted, but it seems to work.
Had to remove the neutral switch and space the sprocket out with an old worn out ground down sprocket, don't know how well this will work out in the long run. Have to put some pics up to clarify. Still thinking on that 1000 cc, might just have to give her a try!

Is the sprocket REALLY worn?

The only real way a chain can slip is a worn sprocket, almost no tension, or misalligned. If everything is lined up, well tensioned chain, and a good sprocket there is no way it can slip.
So it's one of those 3 things:
Worn sprocket
Really loose chain
Missaligned sprockets.

Or something is slipping, but that shouldn't happen.

Or a mount could be weak and it could be torque the mounts in a funny way, therefor missaligning it. Also, i was wondering why you are running a jackshaft? looks dont you dont need one.

You think a bearing near the axel sprocket would stop the chain from slipping?

The chain isn't slipping, it's jumping the teeth. Once you add torque to that axle it flexes and the chain jumps. Only way to cure this problem is to add a bearing close to the sprocket.
