Ford was not the only ones to put gas tanks behind the drivers seat, all the other manufacturers did it too. But Ford did seem to have a problem with gas tanks blowing up for quite a while though. Falcons, Mustangs and Pintos.

I doubt those behind cab fuel tanks had much for capacity. They probably would do better today with plastic. The Pinto was pretty bad, but they were in the middle of a fuel shortage and in competition with foreign car makers flooding the market.

The Mustangs were the worst. The trucks had 16 gallon tanks behind the seat and the only problem with that was the gas fumes in the cab would make people dizzy and pass out.

Me thinks the welding robots were out of calibration and did not have the proper settings. What they don't say if it's trucks with the steel driveshaft or aluminum. 3.21 axle and I think the 3.55 run steel driveshafts and the 3.92 ratio run Aluminum. QA seems to be lacking. Just because the weld bead looks good, does not mean you got proper penetration.

Wow ^ that sucks for those people whose drive shafts broke i hope the truck didnt get beat up any.
Also i thought of something to argue about. What are cross overs??? Are they a sedan, suv, truck what the heck.

Seriously, these people are buying SUVs to oftentimes transport ONE person around a city and stuff!

I beg to differ. I prefer an SUV over a car. Even though I'm average height (5'9"), I struggle getting out of cars nowadays (Volkswagen Passat, sports cars, etc). Trucks and SUVs, I can just slide right out without an issue. Now if an SUV can get 34mpg while doing 75mph down the interstate like a 1.8T Passat will, I'd be a happy camper.

Thought I'd revive this thread now that the 2020 Shelby GT500 Mustang has been released.
I was reading the comments section of Hagerty's latest article about it, and there's a lot of controversy over it.(I mean, duh, it IS a muscle car out of Detroit)
My opinion is that it's really cool and of course really fast, but it's also way complicated and blurring the lines between muscle car and supercar. It's a little techy for my karting side(the side that says "The simpler the better.").
But on the other hand, the original '65 GT350 had upgraded suspension, so I guess it's always been techy.
What are y'all's argum-Imean.....opinions?

It's better than any vehicle FCA rolls off the line, including the Hellcat and Demon. It has impressive stats for what it is, the GT500 that is. With how everything is going, this could be the last generation of high horsepower gasoline and diesel engines as we make the change to electric motors.

I don't believe in the massive universal change to electric.
Batteries have a LONG way to go before they can power the likes of semi trucks, fire trucks, and police cars.
I mean, really.
To me, it's just a bunch of marketing hype by the manufacturers to get a bunch of suckers to buy their expensive electric models.(No personal offense to all of you volt-heads)

I do agree that battery tech needs to get better. However, they should also do more in hydrogen fuel cell tech. I like the idea, I do think they are rushing for it too fast. I do think the push for all of this is a bit hasty. What needs to be done is one, stop making stuff as planned obsolescence, get us out of a disposable society (build to last) and replace only certain parts as needed. We should not be forced into the latest and greatest, because the last generation was made to fail within a couple years.

Just my honest opinion.
