5hp briggs L head

Im mostly looking for bolt on upgrades.

The other things I plan to do, is put a comp cams mr. velocity torque cam with springs, some type of pipe designed for low end torque, a 3hp coil (and possibly flywheel),
and eventually a high compression head and billet rod

I really want some powerful tourque out of this thing (can you tell?), as I dont want to rev it up much until I can afford stronger internals.

btw how high can you safely rev a stock one?

Well you will hear any where from 4000 to 7000 rpms from people so i went to the local kart shop where they have alot of races using just 5 h.p. b&s motors they told me from 5000 to 6000 on a flat head you should be able to do. Now like any thing i guess it also depends on the shape your motor is in now.

But remember, on a Briggs 5 horse, after around 4k RPM, oil consumption skyrockets.

Ummm, I don't think very many of us here have gone with anything that wasn't stock on our engines. :(

I think the 383 might be a bit too big.

Not sure though...hey anyone on here know any sites with the specs of different tillys?

if you are going to get a comp cam get the gp 9350 and get the valve kit for it too, if you want power it'll give it to you 4200 - 8000 rpm is the power range, but i think it builds more power around 4800-8000 i only say that because it does not have cam characteristics that a " 4200 rpm " rated cam has ( this cam is very retarded ( not stupid!! lol ) and i belive it's a high rpm power cam ) .289 lift, good duration.... make sure you grind the area where the tappets go. also get billet tappets, they are not expensive. with that cam i think you can use 383.

found a website with good prices
