If you don't have a roll cage, do NOT have a seatbelt. You say you're not big on safety, but you won't be saying that when you hurt yourself good. I still have scars from my one wreck, that was caused by dry rotted tires, and Budget GoKart on here has injured himself too.

And I'm 13, so safety views do not depend on age.

I’ve been hurt by a go kart too.yhe throttle hung on mine when I was warming it up to change the oil and it dragged me across the street and the neighbors yard before I let go. I tore enough hide off of my feet that I was off work for 6 weeks over it.
You don’t need safety equipment until you need safety equipment, and then you need it bad.

In my case, the 1WD and dry rotted front tires were the full issue. I was turning left, and a slight lapse of attention and a little too much throttle broke the front traction, sending my into the curb. The entire kart actually ended up on the neighbor's grass! Luckily it didn't tear it up.

On the other hand, the back of my right calf got a good scraping up. It was bleeding and everything, thanks to a sharp edge on one of the extra wing plates the PO added to my kart. Those pieces are now gone!
Also managed to bend the front AND rear axles! I managed to straighten them out pretty well, but that was not a fun day!
I've still got scars, and the right front rim is still bent!
