I'm 14 been messing with engines for almost 3 years and had my go kart for almost over 2. I've swaped the engine and im swaping it again. I actually just bought a 5hp briggs flathead for $40 and I think it's a raptor 3 (the new engine for the swap) I'm tearing it down this weekend to find out. Oh and I'm not too big on saftey I'll keep the minimum like kill switches one by the engine one by the seat stuff that's needed seatbelts too. But I've been running the same tires for 2 years and they have no tread and they're dry rotted to crap who knows how old they are. But anyway just thought I'd jump in and say hello.

If you don't have a roll cage, do NOT have a seatbelt. You say you're not big on safety, but you won't be saying that when you hurt yourself good. I still have scars from my one wreck, that was caused by dry rotted tires, and Budget GoKart on here has injured himself too.

And I'm 13, so safety views do not depend on age.

Well, better than nothing. Just wear a helmet!

NOOO it's WORSE than no cage!

Also: I bet it's no roll cage anyways.. there are very very very few karts with a roll cage..
almost all yard karts out there have brush guards instead
(protect from low hanging branches, NOT rolling the kart!)

PS Odd.. second red PathWinder in a week.

I don't off road it I just drive it on a dead end street and I have for the entire time Ive had it. Cops don't seem to mind probably because it's a dead end street. So there isn't as much as a roll hazard as on a yard or off road.

you'd still be safer if you'd remove it and put it in the garage...

since frankly getting trapped in that birdcage (especially with the head) is not exactly a good thing.
you'd be safer is -in case of an accident- you'd get thrown off ..

A "proper" helmet however is always a good idea.. a bike helmet not so much..
especially on asphalt.. with the occasional curb to hit.

Yeah your right the helmet will be a bit hard tho I don't got any income but maybe I can ask for one for my birthday. I will probably take the roll cage off as I almost crashed a week ago and if I did my head would have gone straight into a roll cage bar.

a skateboard helmet is slightly better protection than a bike helmet
(the back of your skull is what most bike helmets completely ignore)

but frankly.. a cheap (but snell & DOT approved) motorcycle helmet is still far better.
around here you can get some for around 40 bucks already..
true true, not the lightest, not the fanciest but certainly good protection.

And while 40 bucks are 40 bucks,
I bet your parents like the idea of an unharmed kid enough to think about that ;)

protip:
dedicated motorcycle gear stores do carry helmets
that may no longer fullfill the max age requirements to be sold as new.
and sometimes those can get pretty cheap.. cheapest I've seen around ('unused' in a shop) was 15 bucks.
It's a bit tough for a 14yo to check all stores of course but maybe your parents like the helmet idea enough to drive you around for a few hours ;)
It's also a good idea to testfit a helmet,
so amazon and such might not be the best plan.

anyways.. take care, and try your best to not get hurt ;)

My kart currently goes 27 mph max and I only have one kart. If we did worst tires I would win tho.

itsid I'll see about going to some motorcycle shops and seeing if they got any they can't sell as new.
