Cool deal, although a bit pricey. Does save the hassle of making a jackshaft. Odd thing is though, the driver looks like a 30 series driver. Hmmm...

Extended Wire Harness:

Ok, our 420cc 13 HP Predator motor has an electric start, which is good, but not if you want to start it while sitting in the kart, I extended the harness about 6’ so that we could mount the key switch somewhere near the seat.
You will need 18ga wire, different colors are helpful, 18ga bullet connectors (with no plastic protectors on them) lots of different size heat shrink wrap, 18ga wire strippers, soldering iron, and solder.
You will see that there are two wires on the harness that are individually shrink wrapped it is important to do the same for the extended wires that you will be adding. ALSO these are the ONLY two wires you will need to cut; you should be able to use the existing bullet connectors all ready on the other existing wires. The remaining three wires should be shrink wrapped together, you can use a 6 foot piece of ¼” shrink wrap for that.
Once the bullet connector is crimped on the wire I like to just give it a little solder for added protection.
Splices’ at motor end: Once the connectors are on and connected make sure to individually shrink wrap each connection. Once all of the connections are done, feed all of the switch end connections thru a 6 foot piece of shrink wrap to neaten up the harness, then connect all of the connections at the switch end and individually shrink wrap each connection, then finish off with a little shrink wrap tape.

NOTE: The switch metal housing has to be grounded (red wire in picture), if not then you will not be able to turn the motor OFF, the off position is basically a kill switch, so take caution and create a good solid ground when installing the key switch on your kart.

Next up: Figuring out a push/pull for the choke, any suggestions out there?

Get one of the lawn mower throttles that is solid wire. They will push or pull it easily, and stay where you put them so it doesn't wander on and off.

Great idea! what type of connection could I use on the choke handle to connect the solid wire?

Just wanted to chime in, I'm the guy that built the viper kart a few years ago. Took it for a rip the other day, had a blast, took a video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUeZv48ubjg

Popped one of the tires which I got fixed, but it's snowed again so it will be a bit for I can take it out again.

There is definitely something fun about driving something you built. I wanted to do that since I was a kid (guess I haven't grown up).

I haven't checked here for a while so I'm excited to see the progress on your build. If you have any questions or need photos let me know. I only have a 6.5hp motor and a TAV2-30 so I might not be able to help much on the drive train though. But I have to say I am happy with the performance with this setup.

Looks Awesome.....how fast do you think your going? What is your ratio? Please keep in touch. :wai:

Not sure, not top speed for sure. I can try and figure the ratio later but I don't remember, and I have plans to check the top speed with a GPS app on my next ride.

Took it for a rip tonight, top speed I got it to was 62.7kph on pavement according to GPS. I've taken the governor off of this engine and I've read that the valves will start to float at high speed acting as a sort of secondary governor, and I think I felt it back off a bit at this speed. Still, it feels really fast so close to the ground. Wear a helmet!

Gear ratio is 5.4:1, with a 10 tooth sprocket on the TAV2.

Hope this helps.

Can I get some feedback on this design?

Not bad, but you'll also want to throw a brake disc next to the big sprocket (placing the brake disc closest to the tire for easy mounting of a hydraulic brake caliper).

The brakes are already on the other side, as seen in this older photo.
