Mine lets you. As you move along, you can depress the clutch just enough to slack the belt without engaging the brake, and upshift smoothly. It does not make any noises that suggest it doesn't like it. It's probably not recommended in the manual, but as I said, no noise.
Have you split the trans apart yet? If not, you probably should at some point before you run it. It will most likely be full of a grayish-white bentonite grease, or if the grease has dried up the entire thing will be full of crusty bentonite clay. You'll need to pressure wash it out (bentonite grease is used for its water resistance) or clean it out with solvent and replace the grease with some kind of oil, perhaps 90w as has already been suggested to you, perhaps something a little thinner like 75-90w, it doesn't really matter. The only difference you'll notice with thicker lube is difficulty shifting when the unit is cold.Whats your top speed? Because im getting alot of "tranny is gonna burn up" in other forums.
I was reccomended to use 90wt oil. Im guessing thats much lighter than stock?
Parts might be impossible to find since it is a tecumseh. I googled it and nothing.
but will thicker grease have too much resistance for high speed?
You mean oil? That's why I was sneakily suggesting that you use thinner 75-90w instead of straight 90w (which is thick like molasses until it's hot). You could even use straight 30w or straight 40w motor oil, which would also be cheaper since the trans probably holds at least 2 litres of lube. Realistically though, the oil in your trans won't be the limiting factor in your top speed.but will thicker grease have too much resistance for high speed?
yea, but will the thick stuff blow the trans at speed?
i took all the bolts out but the trans wont come apart.
