Liljack thats a cool pic,the old body frame is sorta how I want to build mine but I want to have it easily removable for when I want to get off the pavement and bash around in some trails or dirt. Thanks for the info.

I got the carb sorted out and it works pretty good, still needs a little tuning yet I did post a short video a few posts up and you can here the bog.

I got a little more done on the body mounts I think it should be strong enough? these are the side mounts 1/2 in rods.

I think I'll do the front and rear bumper the same way and the top Cage will be locked into a few of these.

Ahh what a mess next step clean up........

Ah Kelly you noticed..I'm not too sure on the tank I thought I loved it at first but hmmmm I could put it sideways maybe I guess. I'm not sure just yet I still need to weld in the bung and boss for a nipple.

I bent up some more pipe for the body mounts and frame.
Luckily the radius for the roof cut out is almost the same as the pipe bender it made things easy

This is just a mock up. I will secure the frame to the body and then find the final locations for the pipe sleeves on the frame.

So much for a quickly removable body... I got everything all lined up and bolted to the body,got the mounts welded to the frame slid the body on and It looks great. Its good and solid, only I fought for about an hour to get it back off. The pipe in the sleeves binds easily when not lifted equally on all four corners, and when it binds it binds

I need to sort that out maybe hone the sleeves out, or cut them down. I don't know for sure just yet but the wheels are turning.

Ok so after struggling with the first design for the cage and trashing everything to get it back off I think I found a better way to fasten the cage.

I fabbed up some new mounts for the cage that will work much better and look better too.

Ill secure the cage with 1/2" bolts up through the bottom of the mounts.

OK!! I have done some work to the kart and made some changes from the original plan. There has been many different ideas come and go, tried this and looked at that. But really nothing to report as real progress so far.

I sorted through the wiring and got rid of all the extras that came with the harness and made a nice clean new one.

Also started on the floor pans and dash board

The sun came out for a wile today and it finally felt like spring so I went out to the shed and made some progress on the Vankart.

I mocked up the brake lever with a thin piece of steel and a bunch of washers so I needed to make a proper lever out of 5/16 thick 6061. I used my angle grinder and a cut off wheel to cut out the ruff shape then filed it to its final shape.

Exactly what reaer end are u using? Sweet van. The full size and the mini. My dad had a 66 chevy shorty. Engine between the seats. Lots of camping out of that thing .
Go the extra mile and wood panel the inside with a heart shaped window in the back!

That is how I make Brackets out of steel.
Kinda slaps the face of the Show offs with a mill, lathe and Machine shop in their Garage!
Never thought about Aluminum though. hmmm

Ever have any problems with Aluminum "loading up" your Grinders?
When i was a youngster, They told me Aluminum will load up the grinding wheels, Cause them to be out of balance and Blow apart!
Is that BS?

After grinding on aluminum, after it started not grinding so well I would run it on some steel to clean it off. I never had any noticeable balance issues.

In the vo teck I grabbed a few cutting and grinding wheels and kept them to myself. Inevitably there was some doofus to drop the grinder, or do something to bugger up a wheel. Ive seen them with chunks out, but never heard of one blowing up while I was there.

Ya there are special discs for grinding aluminum that won't load up and don't have contaminates mixed in that will mess up the welding process. The cut off wheels that I use are about a 1/16" thick or thin depending on how you look at it. I have blown many apart on SS,Carbon steel,aluminum plastic ect.. over the years and they are indeed very dangerous in the wrong hands. extreme precaution and care should be used when using these zip discs and should never and i mean never be used in any other angle but 90* to the work and never stand in the line off detonation!

But a regular 1/4" stone not so much!

The rear end is from a 90cc baja quad it is a great set up and is posi track or a live axle but I wish it had a differential for this project

I got a new seat WOO HOO!! I was going to make my own but this one went on sale and it just made sense. so I will have to rework the previous idea! I got the floor pans mounted as well.

Nope on the pics. Dad sold it in 83. Five years later, he spoted it in a junk yard. A telephone pole jump in front of it!! It had corvette style side pipes, but only one side was hooked up, it was only a six cylinder. Had them western steel wheels in white, bulge along bottom of body matching white, the rest of it brite red. Wood paneling, shag carpet, bed in the back, doobies tucked under dash board.
So i see your setup turns good with a live locked axle. Im making a mini bantam racer with a xs650 engine, and a wheel barrow bucket. 10' long is what im shooting for. I think im wanting a diff, but its just road use, straight line mostly.
Do u think a live axle would be better than a diff?
