yesterday this thing got a work out. had to carry a 7 foot tall TV cabinet and a game table to the donation place. it was sketchy but i drove real slow and it survived.

then i went to an auto place and got brake fluid because the resivoir is dry, i filed it up then went to the hardware store. i noticed the brakes worked a LOT better. when i got back to the truck, ALL the brake fluid was gone. i guess my rear lines are shot.

i ordered parking brake cables so i can at least have a parking brake...

then i went on a 2 hour trip in the truck to tractor supply and got grade 8 bolts for my leaf springs and shocks.

tonight it will be at my high school, and tomorrow we will put it onto the lift and get to work.

How the hell did this thing pass licenceing tests

Oh well at least u can get it sorted now

If the tank is junk then fill it with water

If u have to grind the good tank then fill it with deisel

It is surprisingly hard to set deisel on fire
or the welders at work weld big tanks all the time

If they really have to they fill it with inert gas
CO2 or argon

LOL it never had to be inspected. everyone who sees it asks me the same question!

the rear tank's junk. all i have to do is fill with water, cut off the brackets and remove it.

im not doing it now because ill be dropping it off at the high school tonight, i dont want to screw anything up.

i bet ill get laughed at, especially for the spark plug haha

for some reason them dumb fords seem to like breaking springs. my dads ford had the exact same problem. 2 broken leafs on 1 side and 1 on the other. his also had a coil spring break not far from the top that we had to fix. when you replace your old leaf springs you should keep all the good leafs off the old ones. if you feel up to it you could cut the ends off the old main leafs and stick it under the new main leaf as kind of farm grade add a leaf kit. my 81 dodge ram 150 has an extra 2 leafs on each side and the rear end sits higher even when it is loaded full of stuff.

yeah i have the same springs broken. one broke on the driver side, 2 broke on the passenger side.

good idea on that custom lift kit. ill definitely keep the old leafs around.

i like the truck sitting level though, i heard you can put in F250 front springs and shocks to level the truck

Completely full of fuel is safer than mostly empty. It's the vapors that will ignite, not the liquid.

Up to you!
I probably would... but thats just me, not thinking too hard about it.
:roflol:

i got it in the shop today, and we put it on the lift but nothing else because i dont have auto anymore so i never have time.

this was the first time i could see the suspension better... noticed the driver side shock was broken off at the top, and rubbing against the gas tank!!! :worried2:

the shock mounts are riveted, so were going to have to grind or cut them off with a torch.

he said we'll definitely have to remove the gas tanks

tomorrow ill try to get a picture of it

I'm new here , nice thread!

thanks! welcome to the forum

Well, you can always be like me after you've trashed a few vehicles and build your own.

My current project. I pulled the body off my 93 s10 blazer 4 door 4x4, and will install my rust free 88 toyota cab, after stretching the frame four feet. It will have a homebuilt hydraulic dump flatbed when finished. 10 foot bed, baby.

doing anything to the suspension cause its a real long bed? sounds like a nice project.

everyone is beginning to hate this truck, had to cut the U-bolts with a torch, all the leaf spring bolts with a sawzall, and we cant get the brake drums off :mad2:

might take a while

oh yeah and by the way when they cut the u-bolts off, and the rear axle dropped down, the truck almost fell off the lift frontwards!

is it road worthy yet
or just driveable?

its driveable and registered. ive driven it about 40 miles. i didnt know the rear brakes didnt work! thats the only thing left to do, is replace the rear brake components in the drums. then i finally get to take it home. cant wait to drive it again....

the drum brakes in the back of trucks never work its not worth fixing them cause they dont help much when they do

Absolute BS. I can feel an enormous difference when my drums are in need of adjusting vs. when they're properly adjusted. ALSO, if I stomp on the brake with an empty bed, guess which tires lock up! The rears!

If you can't get drum brakes to work, it's YOU, not the truck.

^^If theres no weight in the back, I would think they would lock up very easily. Now add a couple ton in th bed and see what happens... :D

haha yeah back brakes are important..... also think of it if the front brakes get a leak then im done for, no brakes.

and i wouldnt have a parking brake either

well got some more done, passenger drum is all back together, need to finish the driver side then hook up the E brake cables then put in a rear brake line.

there is always a way to get a vehicle to stop even if there is no brake. its just a matter of how much damage you want to do. since your truck is standard you could down shift and get it to almost completely stop.

yea downshifting is fine and i could slow down fine if i was on a main road or something, but if i was coming to a busy intersection 20 feet behind a car i cant get to a complete stop in time not even reverse it because it locks out obviously because youd blow the tranny.

id rather spend $10 on springs, $20 on wheel cylinders, $40 on lines, $60 on E brake cables, and have all my brakes fixed.

i understand. i just ordered $300 in parts for my newest truck and about half that money was spent on brake parts that may or may not need to be replaced but i don't want to take any chance. i plan on replacing all the hydraulics lines which seem to be about the only thing that fails and causes major problems.

all my brake lines needed to be replaced. but thats alright for a 25 year old vehicle.

i can expect another 25 years till they need to be replaced again haha

what truck did you get>?

i got a 93 dodge ramcharger and it looks like it has the original brake lines. it would have been nice if i could have found an older one but 93 was a one of the better years for dodge trucks. you get the older body style but get the newer transmission and more powerful engine.
