I believe they were thin and not quite the correct shape. Dennis Carpenter has alot of the original Ford tooling and produces excellent body pieces but charges an arm and a leg.

Just saw your post. Get involved in the Chapter BS threads and you'll meet alot of cool people. One member has sent me two boxes of .22 ammo, a free 4 bbl Holley carb, and is giving me a deal on 2 Mosin Nagant rifles. If you're ever in need of a good laugh, head on over to the VA BS thread; we've got some characters in there.

Nice, 5 speed is nice to have. My dad wants one for his 50s 2wd Dodge.

Im thinking bout getting this truck fixxed up. 4wd, V8 360, and 4 speed... gas hog... :ack2:

Ohwell, can still be a cool truck.
Obviously, needs lots of work. We have fenders/cab/bed, so that shouldnt be all that much problem... trick is getting it painted up nice... Fun fun!

all the stuff from LMC is about 250$. if it fits good enough its alright, its not a perfect looking truck but sorta needs a floor....

cost is definitely an issue i barely have any money

Not at the moment, its soaking in some kerosene and pb blaster. The exauste manifolds were off for quite some time, so its sure to be a lil cruddy in there. Got a tree growing up through the mirror and door. heh...
The old man is certain it can run again... just needs loosened up.

If it comes down to pot, we could always stuff a 318 in there... or rebuild a 360... or 383... even a /6... or maybe I can convince my dad to let me put a 354 Hemi in it. :arf:

Yea, power windows and a turbo? Other than that bodies look pretty much identical. :worried2:

Amazing huh?

how badly rusted is the frame? cause that seems to be my main concern on my truck. rust is like a disease spreading through the entire thing.

sitting behind the wheel the interior looks brand new. makes me just want to drive it. then once you get out and the door has a hard time closing and theres a hole in the floor. lol

EDIT: spent all day working on it..... mostly cleaning. i found some reciepts from '09 (so it was on the road recently) some lighters, change, bottle caps, hospital bracelet and a work card

Frame is fine, just the body is ruff. Even if it was shot, we got another.
We got lots of parts for these trucks.

When its all together, just spray some used oil up under it...
:D

You got a welder, Im sure you could get some sheet metal and fix it yourself.

Just hope it doesnt catch rust like my bro in law explorer. within a few years the body was shot, and the frame. The mechanic said he aint never seen anything rusted so bad.
Not like he did anything to make it rust... it was bad.

i have a lot of work to do. that includes upgrading the speakers(maybe) and wire in a connector i can plug my phone into for music.

the rear suspension is trashed, it has one shock on the right side and no left shock or mount, and broken leaf spring. he got leaf springs from a '96 F-150 in a junk yard and new upgraded shocks, shock mounts, and leaf spring hardware.

he got a LMC truck part catalog and im going to get new floor pans and cab corners and stuff.

also going to change all fluids

When you get to replacing the shock mounts and leaf spring mounts remove your bed if possible. I had the same problem on mine and it was much easier to remove the bed and replace everything than trying to do it underneath the truck. Also, try to coat the oilpan with paint or an undercoating because they are notorious for rusting out. You have a pretty much bulletproof motor and tranny combo in there. I have a 95 with the 302 and 5 speed and it's great to drive. Have fun!

Here's my little "truck".

It's a 1979 Suzuki LJ81, the predecessor to the Sierra/Samurai/what ever it's called where you are. It's Substantially smaller than a Sierra/Samurai, to give you an idea of the size, the tray is 1315x1400mm (52"x55"). Perhaps this pic will give you a better idea of the size though.

Most notably, the early models came as 2 strokes. Mine is a 4 stroke (whopping 800cc engine, the biggest they came with!) but I do have plans to put an outboard engine in it. They're extremely good offroad, it is by far the best stock off road vehicle I have driven (and I'm into 4wding), this goes places on bald tyres that our quad bikes wont.

Obviously, it's a resto project. I'm modifying it substantially though. When I'm done with it, there wont be a part on it that I haven't modified in some way or form. I plan to drive it around Australia and drive as many hard tracks as possible.

Good luck with that Ford blue, that's some serious rust it's got! If I was you I'd be trying to find a better body for it, I'm guessing they a pretty common vehicle over there?

Thanks

Hayden

thanks for telling me about the oil pan. ill throw some grill paint on it. there are some rust bubbles on the pan but it doesnt leak. yet.

i have leaf springs from a 1996 model im replacing as well. pretty much all the suspension in the rear is going to be replaced. right now has no shock mounts, no shocks of course and broken leafs.... im surprised its sitting as well as it is

ive been hearing great things about the motor.

i need to mount the seat belt then hopefully get it registered and get my permit friday. then i can drive it!!!!! cant wait for that.

was looking forward to driving this weekend but now has an antifreeze leak.

it was on the heater connector so i just cut it off and welded it closed. when i was putting it back in the truck i didnt install the thermostat the right way and guess what the whole outlet piece cracked in half.

i dont know where i can get one of these....
