looks like a cool motor to me. says great for go karts . and isnt that the same as the rpm range as the clone... i think that would be the first diesel motor on here that any one has used. 1 inch shaft tho dont like that...

lots of torque but no rpms means that you will have to use a gear box if you want to get anywhere quick
its doable, but not really practical

but on a side note, there are a few diesel quads that you might want to steal the engine out of if you want to go that way

from the description, i extrapolated that idle is at 3000rpm. if that is true, not very suited to karting or other applications where revs are an issue. you would gear it high, but without having a decent throttle range, almost pointless for these applications. the clone idles @1500rpm or so

Its a diesel and they dont put out that much rpm. i dont even think it has a govoner its just the way the injector is set at it wont dump anymore fuel in the engine.

swapping an injector is a lot easier than swapping a carb, well sometimes. a pressure regulator and higher volume pump would help.

there was a guy who used a festiva injector on a clone. he made his own fuel injection computer and ran a turbo.

some noob questions here, would this be 4-stroke or a 2-stroke diesel? If i were to put this on a go-kart i need weaker springs in my clutch? if so what range rpm? and are these just as reliable as the other clones? (6.5 etc)

4 stroke only 2 strokes are detroits. you would need a very lose spring... loser then a 10 cent hooker. a belt slip style clutch would be the best for this. and i dont see you being able to get it the way you want it to.. if you want a small diesel get a used engine outa refer trailer.

Princess Auto has a similar diesel, I've been aching to get my mitts on it, but can't justify the price... Too bad, a diesel kart would be killer!
I read all the fine print in that ad, and there's a comment about RPM limited to accomodate EPA regs, "sealed with a copper wire". I wonder how much faster it can spin with a few twists of that bolt!?!? There's a label about being certified for "constant speed only" and I'm also wondering if the range 3000-3600 rpm is nominal loaded working speed, possibly subject to adjustments. I can't help but think that it's very difficult for me to believe this pig IDLES at 3000 RPM. I could be wrong, but I strongly doubt it will only function within that range.
EDIT- I just watched the video that the ad links to- and that's idling WELL below 3000 RPM.

in it's stock configuration, yes. if the revs are what they seem. we all know the clones can turn 10k. tweaking and swapping parts should bring it to life.

this motor
slip belt clutch (or tav)
3 jackshafts all geared from a 10 tooth to a 70 tooth
and big *** wheels with a locked diff

couldn't you run methanol in this thing? i can't say i saw a spark/glow plug.
