Ok....the airshow got me to thinking about the planes that crashed in Lake Worth. There used to be a big fence surrounding the end of the runway at Carswell. The story was that it was built because a B-36 had crashed there and was still at the bottom of the lake.
It was taken down and I was fishing very near the end of that runway when a couple of F-4's came in for a landing heading south , (I said the end of the runway , because planes land and take off both ways) . Good googly moo! It was scary...they rattled the bottom my jonboat!
Anyway, so in researching this a bit...a couple of interesting things came up. First, that the preponderance of the evidence is that that plane was recovered ...(makes sense) ....then that it was put up because that was the location of a small nuclear reactor...(Yeah right! )
Well, actually, it makes more sense after reading a little more. First, there was a nuclear powered B-36. Second, Carswell did have a nuclear reactor, allegedly located in a well....and was doing nuclear testing for NASA....
SO.....now for the Poboy conspiracy theory: The final resting place for this nuclear powered B-36 is highly debated....some say it's buried under (what is now) a Lockheed parking lot....another says it's sitting above ground far from civilization.
What if this was the B-36 that crashed in the lake? Then everything would kinda make sense?
An F-4 crashed into a cove I had sunk Christmas trees in, and was pretty much fishing everyday. I watched them pull up the wreckage about 100 yards away from where I just happened not to be fishing in my tube the day it crashed!
