Wish me luck fellas. I've got a self-propelled, electric start lawnmower I picked up for my mom. She has been having to get my stepfather to start the lawnmower for her, but they are both in their 80's.

Now....the wish me luck part: it's got a Tecrapsey engine on it, and the carb is dirty...(who'd have figured? ) My track record with these carbs is about 50/50...which means a cleaning only works 1/2 the time, now....I could probably up that with second effort, but frankly, whole carbs are so cheap, that I just don't want to throw parts or time into these carbs if it doesn't work the first time.

Sooooo...since it isn't running, I can't check the self propulsion for functionality.

I don't know if the starter works or of the battery can be recharged or not, or if the charging system is OK.

Good luck with that. What's the HP rating?

It's a 5.5 hp. I haven't had any luck getting it to run on carb cleaner, (it did a month or two ago...I pulled the spark plug and it was fouled by a piece of carbon, so I may have flooded it. Would have liked to get it firing first....

Just checked the self propelled lever and there's no resistance, so it probably at least needs a new cable or lever...

While I was pulling on this thing...a small (maybe 10") snake came out from under the lawnmower. It was only about a foot and a half from the mower to the shed...and the little booger got under before I could get a good ID on it or grab it!!

I've been wanting to catch something different, and this was
(It could have been a baby blotched water snake) ...but I usually find them in the pond. It's been awhile so I'm not really sure on their patterns, it was the right coloration, but I don't think the pattern was right...

I'll be watching for the little booger tho...

I also found a small dead rough earth snake next to the mower....(breaks my heart to kill one of those little guys)....not sure if I stepped on him or what....(he was all in one piece? ???) BTW: I had cranked on this thing a dozen times before all this happened!

Made me think of my aunt from Texas. When she visited, she brought fake snakes to put above the window A/C units. She didn't like the bird nests, I guess. Must be a Texas trick?

Well....carb clean was a 100% success.....on to the other issues!

The transmission WORKS!!!!. It just wants to hang up....and not disengage the drive wheels....(shouldn't be too tough to fix!)

On to the battery / charging / starting system!!!!

Oh....well, carb works very well, but it seems like the primer bulb isn't working..if I shoot it with carb cleaner, it starts right up and runs fine, but not with just the primer bulb....arrrgh.....Tecumseh! !!!

Oh....and BTW, its low on dirty oil, so I didn't want to run it too long to see if it would charge the battery....I guess I'll add a little oil.....or try to charge the battery or test the starter another way.

EDIT: BTW: I checked my Texas Snakes book, and that could have well been a baby blotched water snake.....which makes me sad in two ways: they're not very uncommon, and....as soon as it takes up residence in one of my ponds, I will have to give it a headfull of .22 shellshot!

Ok....the airshow got me to thinking about the planes that crashed in Lake Worth. There used to be a big fence surrounding the end of the runway at Carswell. The story was that it was built because a B-36 had crashed there and was still at the bottom of the lake.

It was taken down and I was fishing very near the end of that runway when a couple of F-4's came in for a landing heading south , (I said the end of the runway , because planes land and take off both ways) . Good googly moo! It was scary...they rattled the bottom my jonboat!

Anyway, so in researching this a bit...a couple of interesting things came up. First, that the preponderance of the evidence is that that plane was recovered ...(makes sense) ....then that it was put up because that was the location of a small nuclear reactor...(Yeah right! )

Well, actually, it makes more sense after reading a little more. First, there was a nuclear powered B-36. Second, Carswell did have a nuclear reactor, allegedly located in a well....and was doing nuclear testing for NASA....

SO.....now for the Poboy conspiracy theory: The final resting place for this nuclear powered B-36 is highly debated....some say it's buried under (what is now) a Lockheed parking lot....another says it's sitting above ground far from civilization.

What if this was the B-36 that crashed in the lake? Then everything would kinda make sense?

An F-4 crashed into a cove I had sunk Christmas trees in, and was pretty much fishing everyday. I watched them pull up the wreckage about 100 yards away from where I just happened not to be fishing in my tube the day it crashed!

So....as the Poboy mind is wandering....I remember a time in the past....when a little girl came and told me there was a deer trapped on the creek a couple of blocks away....

(I'm not turtle man....so I grabbed my leather gloves.)..and headed to the creek behind my young female guide....

There was a gate of sorts....(to trap large refuse and fallen limbs from reaching the lake).... and there was a whitetail doe deer that had tried to go through the bars...but caught her hips as she was trying to go through....

Now....make no mistake...a whitetail deer is one of the most dangerous animals in North America....so...I was on guard....but after 10 anxious minutes or so....(with her trying to bite and kick....) .....I got her free....she took off down the creek....but kept falling down....

Long story....but she drowned....

Anyway....been thinking about hunting that area....it's Government land and posted "No Trespassing "......but I think I could pull it off with a bow....and a little baiting!

..

Now thats a crazy Broad story.

The Doe! not the Little girl!!!

Oh....it gets better....(and worse).... Texas Parks and Wildlife Department pulls up across the street with this deer in the back of the truck....I figured it was a mercy killing, but then found out the deer had kept running downstream towards the lake and had drowned in the deeper water.....

So....the Game Warden is releasing this deer I rescued to this idiot that lives across the street from me....I quickly negotiated for 1/2 the meat.....at first....the butthole didn't wanna do it....but I pointed out....I (sorta) rescued the deer, and......he didn't have a CLUE how to process it.....

I took it out in the backyard and hung it off the swingset.............(now remember....a little girl led me to this deer....) I don't know how half the kids under 12 wound up in the middle of all this.....but they did.....

Soooo....I have to tell them all to get the heel outta there and go home!!!! I just can't imagine a bunch of city kids watching deer guts and blood spilling out when most were under 10....

Kids.
We have Chickens, For the eggs and the kids experience, real food.
So a neighbor of ours got a bunch of chickens. They were meat chickens.
One day we were walking by and he was out there plucking a bunch. ( we missed the slaughter)
We stopped to talk and we had the kids with us, He was like warning us cause of the kids.
I told him "we know what you are doing" That was why we stopped, The kids should see both sides of the usefulness of Chicken.

I want my kids to know "Nuggets" are NOT part of a Chicken and Chicken does not come from the Grocery store.
It is nice living just outside of the city. Kids get to see alot more.

Yeah, that's not quite the point, Eric.....these weren't MY kids....or I would have handed them knives!!!! My kid saw plenty of butchering...(I was an outdoorsman) ...and a chicken or rabbit is one thing ...but..for a kid not ready for it, a pile of guts and blood spilling out of a deer, and a stranger with bloody hands and a knife.....well , it could tramatize them...and turn them into tree snuggers or something!

   I grew up on a small family farm; from about 2nd grade onward what you folks are arguing about was old news. I also tend to think that a lot more kids need to go thru that when they are younger; at the very least they would more likely appreciate what they have a little more....... :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

I agree....but...again, those weren't my kids...and it was just much better and easier all the way around to get rid of them....

Look at how traumatised grown a$$ men get just reading my posts (or viewing my pics:lolgoku:).... People are weird these days....(if their parents had ever been on a farm....it might have been a different story.)

BTW: If you're interested: Go to Google Maps and punch in 907 McCully 76108...and on the satellite view...pan north....then east...and you'll have a pretty good idea how close I am to each!

EDIT: For scale : the building between me and the runway is one mile long.

Thats Funny i already Googled White Settlement Yesterday, Just to see the Base proximity!

And your point is WRONG!!!
They were NOT your kids... So NOT your problem.

This is what happens when a guy (not you) marries a Yuppie Woman and moves to the Suburbs and raises little Yuppie kids.

Ok well that was fun.
Along those same lines... Today I bought this Protractor angle finder.
It is stainless steel with etched graduations that are painted Black.
but wait for this....
There is a warning on the packaging that states:
This product contains one or more Chemicals known
to the state of California to cause birth defects and
other reproductive harm and or Cancer.

Are you kidding me!!!!! and I always wonder when I see these warnings;
Do the other states know?
Should we tell them?
