Yeah- I stopped at 600 grit and polished it with some small rust pits and sanding scratches still in it- good enough for a quick pic- but not up to real life Poboy standards. This thing is pretty rusted so polishing it may mean the metal drops a guage....

So a quick Poboy snippet- (don't worry there will be tons of build stuff soon). You know how you say " Now why didn't I think of that? " Had one of those today- only it was " Now why didn't I think of that sooner..."

Some pics:
In the first pic you see 2 HF $10 die grinders with quick change sanding disc attachments sitting on top of yet another "on hold Poboy project- a custom guitar". They don't exactly give these discs away. So you will notice there are 2 sizes- a 2" and a 3".

In the second photo the arrow points to where these discs do 90% of the work and wear out the quickest.

The third photo shows a 3" disc on a 2" pad with a circlce of graph paper in between just for photographic clarity. So what I did was get the tool spinning slowly and put the 5 in 1 tool against it in the position shown. This gave me a line to follow with a single edged razor blade. I found you didn't necessarily have to cut through to the grit -but if you had a good score line and bent it- it would snap. The result is double life out of the 3" disc.

If you notice I scribed it oversized- so I can do it again.....I'm not just poor- I'm cheap!

BTW- I took the disc off, layed it flat and cut it that way- you COULD try cutting it off running but then we might call you nine fingers.

Yikes- If that costs you your job, then they're really expensive! Thankfully they are a little cheaper at Northern Tool but they are still about $1 apiece.

They're really expensive at Harbor Freight. ....a little box winds up costing $75 before I know it....

I guess by now everyone knows about " Duck Dynasty" -a TV series about a family of rednecks that made the big times with a better duck call they named the "Duck Commader". They make other calls like the "Buck Commander". Since I don't hunt ducks and the last time I called a deer- it was with a telephone and spelled differently. .....I decided to try out their predator call. Don't waste your money- I've been blowing on that sucker every night for a month- and haven't even seen a Briggs and Stratton yet.....

How many come in that little box? A quick glance thru last year's Production Tool Supply catalog has 3" 3M 777F Roloc disks for between $1.10 and $1.20 each depending on the grit size (you would need the correct arbor), whereas the house Surf Pro brand had them listed between $.85 to $.95 each.

While those prices have most likely gone up, it won't be like the price of gas goes up...

Clearly, you have once again totally failed to read or follow the instructions; I'm betting it will most likely come down to trying to use it when it's not mating season.....

SOOOOOO- I created this thread partly to post up "non-sensical ravings of a lunitic mind" and as a place for mini-tutorials on commonplace problems with restoration of older karts.......

So- right now I'm going to focus on the former and possibly do a little philosophical mini series.

To start with- I want to examine what makes this the greatest site on the planet. We are worldwide and have some of the best and brightest the planet has to offer. The core of our base lives is to help others. That's what we REALLY want to do. We weed out the undesirable through subtlety, compassion, and tough love. And sometimes- we just let them hang around because- well....."it's easier to ignore Poboy than chase him off"....

But what it really is is this...... we're all just 13 again. The common bond of gokarts takes us back to that time and place where we were all a gang and the nerd, the cool guy, the rich kid, the poor guy, etc.....got along. Everybody razzed everyone else and we shared the good times and the bad collectively. If we didn't want someone around- we didn't all jump on him and beat him up- we just ignored them and pointed out inappropriate behavior.

So- my thoughts. ......take 'em or leave 'em.....something to ponder at half-time.......

On another forum- someone mentioned sighting a coyote. I mentioned how I used to call them in and how it was really funny when a non-outdoor type person was sitting next to me would freak because we were unarmed.

So this native American gal who is a real nature freak asks me how you call in coyotes. So I explain: " They have to call first. Then you do your best to imitate a coyote. I don't know wether they think it's a lost member of the pack, competition or what. ...but the whole pack will come a long way to check it out. "

So she tried it last night and it worked. She was pretty pumped. She even spotted one. I told her now she just needed to find a city slicker. ....

Funny you should mention coyotes....2 nights ago I watched a documentary on TV about a folk singer Taylor Mitchell, a canadian, that was killed by coyotes in Cape Breton. She is apparently the only adult (or first, I am not sure) to be killed by coyotes.

I 100% agree.

On the topic of coyotes... they have been eating my neighbors dogs recently. I live near a military base, and most of them are coming from there.

The army has warned us local residents... but, what they fail to mention is that it's their fault. They introduced them to the area to control the ground hog population, then the coyotes got out of hand. Now they eat pets... guess they taste better.

My house is backed up to miles of woods, so we get black bear, coyote, fox, raccoon, etc.. I think it's pretty cool. My neighbors don't.

This is pretty good and I'm sure Sid will appreciate this as well as some others. I just saw on the news where a 17 year old "psychic- mentalist, magician-illusionist, shyster....whatever......has made a CD with the pediction of the Superbowl results: winning team, final score, and MVP.

It's going to be displayed in a clear plastic tube in front of a football stadium until after the Superbowl. Well even I got this figured out. ....The CD is only the prop- it may even be blank. The real trick prop is the CD player- which will be downloaded with the correct information seconds after the conclusion of the game. 10:1 says he is "out of pocket" for a few seconds in that time frame.......

Edit: He could do it in plain sight as well. ..The CD starts up with a little introduction: Ok folks- here are my Superbowl predictions. ..blah blah blah. ..during which time he turns to face a screen behind him and his live mic is switched to a feed to the CD player with a delay and a camera shot of his head which records the predictions. He turns back to face the crowd as his predictions come true with amazing accuracy. .....

Double edit: It also just occurred to me that every eventuality could be pre-recorded. Each team declared the winner, everyone on both rosters declared the MVP and a score of 0-100 for both teams......just plug in the right sound bites. ....

Then the prediction is written with the magicians thumb.

This is old school.. now we have smartphones, bluetooth, wifi, NFC and other fancy electronic stuff.

Now he doesn't even need to touch the CD nor the player, the recording can simply be on his phone and just played back via a bluetooth module inside the cd player (using the player as a remote control for the phone)
That is the easiest way.. no need to hide anything but the phone (inside the pocket is just fine) no need to touch anything.. spectators can play, pause and stop the cd (and the playback of the phone at the same time) without any suspicion.

He can stand back and say "see, I didn't even touched it"
