do you happen to know why you guys are using Ni-Ai Bronze, instead of silicon bronze?.. Just curious they are both used in boats, just wonder why one over another.

I'll have to ask engineering to clarify that for us, but all we use in our foundry is straight bronze and NiBral, which is another name for Ni-Al bronze.

If what you're referring to as silicon bronze is our straight bronze, I'll confirm it, but that alloy hasn't come up by name in the time I've been there.

To be continued?????

EDIT: Straight bronze is OK for prop's, but NiBral is the industry standard for both commercial and government propeller's. The commercial ones we make carry some prominent name's, and some of the "one off's" won't show up there. We mfg prop's for the Coast Guard as part of our mix as well...

Photos of the carnage....

Well, I found the forklift. As of this post, the engineering dept. isn't in yet, so I don't have your answer yet J.

I cant see alot of the damage, why did they red flag it ?

Damage to the rod end's on the steering cylinder; it couldn't be driven in a straight line. The local Toyota dealer fixed that first thing this morning, but they need to pull the counterweight to replace all four mounting bolts, as well as check for other damage while its off.

The three photos of the forklift show how this guy got stuck just once, but twice. Using the steering alone he torqued the chassis hard enough that the counterweight smacked the inside of the roll cage on both sides, which amazed the Toyota folks. Apparently there's a designed in 20mm gap that's supposed to prevent that, hence the reason the counterweight need's to come off.

The other two photos show just one of the prop's the the now former weldor did that got him fired. The prop is cast in Ni-Al-bronze. He welded it with 308 stainless steel filler rod, and was then trying to cap that with straight bronze filler rod. He either wanted to get fired, or was on some serious drug's

:mad2:

He was trying to go for pic related below... just in reverse??? :lolgoku:

Also silicon bronze is a type of bronze alloy... so if you're just using straight bronze with the mix. then it most likely isn't Silicon bronze.

silicon bronze is kinda expensive [from my standpoint at least], but fairs really good under water. even salt water. I don't know the difference between the two you know, strength wise.

**** for all I know Ni-AI-Bronze is just easier in the machining process....! and that's why they use it!

NiBral is stronger than straight bronze, but it's probably twice as hard to cast due to the alloy mix generating a lot of gases in it's molten state. It's also almost twice the price, so we're not using it for the fun of it....:surrender: :surrender:

All of our high end prop's are NiBral. That's what the customer wants... :cheers2:

Speaking of bronze... I need small bolt cutters. someone came up to me today and said while pointing out another thing I had done. "make me a pair of gloves out of mild steel chainmail." jokes on me tho. He wants to ID to be 10mm... I have nothing to cut 10mm ID rings with.. and the local ace had nothing small enough to be able to even cut 1 ring...

Anyway its a solid chunk of change in my pocket so I just gotta keep looking.

He brought over a pair he had already, but its 6 in 1 instead of 4 in 1. and he wants a pair of 4 in 1 to match the rest of his stuff. Let me tell ya... Those things are legal brass knuckles... I would not wanna get punched by someone wearing them! LOL

He wants gloves made in the 4/1 pattern. like picture below. he has gloves now that have 6/1. but they don't match the rest of his chainmail outfit. He know's ive made mail before and also sew. so I'm up to the task.

I created 4/1 pattern for someones off-road buggy about 4 years ago to act as a bush guard. currently he lives in Baltimore, not sure if he still owns the buggy or not. basically made of mild steel too, stretched tight, tack welded around so it was "stiff" well as stiff as chain mail can get.

I would of done it differently and gave it a mild steel flat bar border that fits the gaps in the buggy with the mail weave in between.. as the mail was kinda hard to tac weld without melting the thin rings.. I'd love to do something like the buggy again [with pictures this time] I had pictures but that phone is long gone and that's before i knew about dropbox.

My kitchen smells weird.....all afternoon it's been smelling great....as I have a big pot of chicken foot soup cooking.....but then I decided I needed to get off my butt and get another lawn mower running....so I boiled a Tecumseh carb in lemon juice.....:lolgoku:

On a more positive note....last night I gave my babies a mix of mice and baby chicks....and they both cleaned their plates....( I was a little worried about Oscar....) but I think Felix will eat just about everything....

(the difference between growing up on the mean streets and being spoiled)...

For those that don't know ....these are my two 5' Texas rat snakes...one caught full grown about a month ago....the other raised from a baby...

I'm not hungry enough to eat chicken feet, or liver, or heart... or anything else that isn't the meat. just don't like the chewy/irony/squishy feeling of weird animal parts like that...

sure if there was nothing else to eat and I was hungry, i'd eat roaches. but that's besides the point. YUCK.

Ok...so..I've got this full grown Texas rat snake that I recently caught.....

Now.....stay with me....it's kinda hard to wrap your head around.....but I'm basically deathly afraid of snakes ...

But...over the years....as in most unreasonable fears..(fear of flying for example..) .....logic and experience can overcome ignorance.....HOWEVER......

This IS prominently documented, one of the most prone to bite non-venomous snakes ever.....And I have dealt with many of these snakes...and I can tell you it's true.....they can be pure, flat out mean.....right out of the egg....(and usually are).... but one in the 5' range can hurt you....

Sooooo....as I watch this guy watch me all day....I wonder if he wants me to play with him....or bite the crap outta me.....(he already has....on the side of the head no less)..... and Texas rat snakes are like women.....you think everything is fine....then they go off on you! !!!!

Anyway.....I'm getting his little booger tamed....but it did get an attitude and threaten to bite me as I was putting it back in its. home.

It still blows my mind though, how cool this snake is.....

Decided to revisit the "Poboy Crusher 2"...and first off....I spent 20 minutes searching for the 15" pulley I made, then got some parts gathered up, started putting them loosely in place.....and felt like a cow staring at a new gate.

It took awhile to figure out how I had engineered this thing in my head....then I found a few problems that I'm not sure if I anticipated or not.....but it's definitely not just gonna fall together.....

Oh well.....that was the whole point anyway....a problem solving project and the challenge of seat of the pants engineering and getting it right the first time....(if possible) ....

BTW!!!!!!!!!!! Why was that thread closed?????? My last post was 3-15-15????? I should still have a day....LOL.

Please re-open for me oh sweet and gracious Mods.....

EDIT: BTW: I'm missing some parts for this build....I need some green pieces of paper with dead Presidents on them....go to the "Poboy Fund: fund me and fu## you"....jeeze.....seriously....I don't have any money either, but if I get some....the FIRST thing I do with it is TCB.... and even though I struggle to pay my bills....begging is my last option.

I'm kinda mad at myself right now....there's a well in the lot next door my backyard and they've been messing with it lately....they've had a drilling rig out twice in the last couple of months....and then they set up the drain pipe and just run water out into the street. It runs down my street to the lake.....so, they started this Friday morning.....I just a little while ago hooked up a pump and a garden hose and I'm watering my yard....

Why oh why didn't I think of this Friday?

Last night, I was out looking at the blood moon total eclipse....while texting my daughter....(who didn't know about it)....in my pajamas and robe...and that big psycho cat of mine comes up and starts rubbing up against my ankles....

Now, some folks might think that a sign of affection....but...NO....not Sammy, that's just his way of saying...."I want you to do something for me"....Well....it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out....since he was outside...he wanted to go in.....

So.....since I was busy texting, I ignored him...so he figured maybe I needed a stronger clue....and, impatient, controlling, self-centered, "Bo bo head" he is .....bit me on the ankle!

Now, this is his way of saying: "HEY!!!! Let me in!!!!! And FEED me....I'm Hungry! " (If I let him in and don't FOLLOW him to the food bowl...he'll bite me on the foot or ankle) ....

I can't help it....he makes me laugh, but I almost never call him Sammy, because Bo bo head fits so much better..

Why oh why didn't I think of this Friday?

So a Public Works truck was coming down the side street and spotted my pump.....they did a quick drive by and turned around and stopped in front pf my house....I was talking to the neighbor across the street so I walked over and asked if there was a problem as they were getting out of the truck....

The driver asked me where the hose was going....I told him I was watering my lawn....and he told me that was OK!!!!!!!! Just don't connect it to the house....because it's full of iron oxide....

Ok! now I know what plugged up my toilet, shower, and kitchen sink .....LOL!!!!

Oh well, can't fight city hall...just glad they're cool with me getting all the water I can pump for about 30 cents of electricity a day!!!$

Well, they turned off the water this morning. I got a lot of my yard watered first though.

So as I taking the pump back to near the pond...I spied a newborn ribbon snake sticking it's head up out of the pond. I've got my work cut out for me to catch this little booger.

I bought one for my daughter when she was fairly young, and she loved it. I also had one a few years back I lucked out and caught....(these snakes are quick) ...I knew it was out there, and pulled back some plastic and surprised it after two weeks of trying to catch it. It was full grown and the really pretty Texas blue variant....so maybe this one is too....

I don't know if I'll keep it as a pet, but I don't want to kill it, and I don't want it eating all my fish.
