well i replaced the spark plug with a high combustion spark plug and i did some kind of timing issue i read in the book and i took some time into adjusting my air/fuel so it gets some pretty good speed and my uncle told me how to bore a engine so i borred it which is the hardest thing i have ever did and my uncle gave me a tip to run some high grade gas so i hit like 45 to 60 but i want to put a dirt bike engine on there

A high combustion spark plug?

You did (caused?) a timing issue? That CAN NOT help. Burn that book.

Air/fuel mix depends on how freely the intake and exhaust flow.

You bored out the engine to what? How big of a piston did you put in?

High octane fuels do not give extra speed. They are for high compression engines because high compression engines can compress the air/fuel mix so much that it combusts before the plug fires which causes "knocking".

Did you remove/defeat the governor? If not, you're still stuck at 3600 RPM so you aren't going to go any faster. 45-60 is a broad range and would be absolutely HORRIFYING in your kart. It's a 1WD with probably a 6:1 ratio and 12-15" tires.

With those numbers, 15" tires, 6:1 ratio, and governed motor, you hit an absolute MAXIMUM of 27 MILES per hour. Sorry to rain on your parade. I feel like you Googled performance mods and then restated them here. If you took the time and effore to bore out a 5HP engine, why would you jimmy rig on an air filter and not get a tuned exhaust?

Jeez whats with the claims in this thread. Its like anything he says is tested and questioned. Who knows and who cares how much exact percent of torque he is making extra.

Lets see a video of this thing. Good to see someone expirementing. (did i speeel that right??)

The torque claim was made and should be backed up with facts.
Until I see some numbers I will continue to believe that atheros101 statements are pure, unadulterated BS.
In short...narcissistic CRAP....with a capital C.

Unless you put it on a dyno or somehow hook your 5HP engine up to a computer, all numbers are guesses. He's only being questioned because of his bold, assertive, exact claims. Had he said "I modded my intake and exhaust and removed my gov. and then felt a difference in how it ran" we would have all agreed. But since be claimed an x% jump in torque and whatever else, we asked how be reached these numbers. I get the feeling we'll hear little to nothing more from him about this.

i Used the old air filter and the air filter then i added a new filter and used the base of the old air filter on the bottom and used some stuff to stick it together but i forgot its name and i made the striaght pipe out of scooter handle bars and i did some work to the engine to make the torque go up and i broke the clutch drifting a corner somehow but landuse i had really bad troubles with the same thing but i made the tubes in the tank bigger but i didnt have problems with bumps

How did you extend the pipes into the gas tank?

He more likely than not DID improve it, but his claims were a bit far fetched and supported by only hot air.

This is the dreams of a kid, he got an old kart, and he's just trying to join in. So let's see what we can do to help get this thing up and running for him, and then he can brag for real. That being said, Atheros check the go kart discussion part of the forum for the listings of go kart parts suppliers and find the parts you need, like some peddles, clutch, chain, some linkages and throttle cable. Start checking around your neighborhood for parts I'll bet there are old karts and more parts than you think right around where you live. Then ask for help here. cause as you can see these guys will help, but they can also see right through a story.

I'm all in favor of lending a helping hand here. I would have liked to hear where his numbers came from and how he managed to do those mods.

How did you bore it out and how did you measure your speed? What did you do to the timing? Also, high octane fuels is a waste of cash in these little engines also. Your money is better spent on addatives help counter-act the ill effects of ethanol now mixed in with gas.

I have friend with cnc machines and lathes and every kind of machining equipment out there... There is no way you can precision over bore a motor and still retain good seal characteristic ( let alone straight and true)... Did you cross hatch the motor to help the ring seal better..What did you use to cut the motor with and what was used to smooth the bore down and was the head and motor decked???
