I also add a spring to the arm of my builds that helps the arm return that might help. sorry if i sounded sarcastic but it just looked like you where not reading our replys, once again im sorry if i sounded mean.

I’m a third to add, I also have added return springs on all of my engines, it greatly helps.

Thanks guys! It's fine, no worries. Maybe I should have read closer and inspected before I started posting. lol. I ordered a new throttle cable which will be here today, that was my issue. Previous cable was over 10+ years old and was kinked causing the "non" return to idle issue.

I'll take some more pics tonight. Last thing to do is put the torque converter back on (Although I did order a brand new predator kit........these old comet clutches are old and rusted, might be worth just doing new). Also got to add the kill switch to the steering wheel which was also broken.

Usuallly a good cleaning will benefit but you can always keep. It for another kart one day or send me it I need parts

If anything switch out the pulleys between the kit and the kne on the kart, although I perfer the comets.

Hi Guys,

Here's the update. Got the new TC kit in today, so I just used the Driver and Driven pulleys from the kit, as well as a bolts/washers/nuts from it. I didn't need the mounting plate, since the this old Manco 485 (Tecumseh) already had this clutch mount w/ jackshaft on it, so I just stuck with that. I probably could have tried to use, but I think it would be sitting to much lower on the frame, and I'd end up having to just cut the clutch mount off. Much more work.....although I do like the idea of the belt guard for kids. I don't see any way of putting one on here. The one in the kit mounts to the plate with 4 bolts. This way I have now seems ok test running on the jackstands. I don't see any issues. Pulleys look in line too.

Next step is I'm replacing the bearings in the front tires, then I'll be able to test drive it out.

*Note - Put the new throttle cable on last night. What a difference! Old cable was definitely bad. This one returns to idle with no issues.

Forgot to ask...........what's the main difference for the different sprocket that was in the kit? The kit had a 9 tooth. My old sprocket that I reused was an 8 tooth. Is the smaller for more top end?

Yup.
And the bigger sprocket has more metal between the shaft and the teeth, meaning less chance of damage.

Yea somewhere around there I would assume, but it all depends on conditions. I’ve gotten my two seater manco to go 40 and that’s with a stock clone engine and gearing, but now it has a stage one and has more off the line power

What do you guys think of the chain slack? I've read somewhere between 1/2-3/4 max flex.........that true? Think its about that now. Can't test drive it until tomorrow when I get the new bearings for the front wheels. Seems to be ok when I run it on the jackstands.

I loosened the engine bolts up and slid the engine back as far as it could go too.......

Thats a hard no...
Definatly need to be under way more tension...
Might need to jack up the engine with some washers...
3/8" to 1/2" of chain deflection...

Turn the wheel about while pinching the chain, youll see the amount to take out... probably about an inch...

Thanks to everyone who chimed in! Got the motor moved back, and the chain had perfect tension. Took it for some test runs (the wife too!) and it works great! The smiles on my son's friends face was priceless when they came to pick it up. It hadn't ran since the middle of June.....and it works awesome now!
