For the head I’ll use the torque spec for piece of mind. Better chance at knowing the gasket set properly. Spark plug is gapped correctly. It’s lookin like maybe I had a sticking exhaust valve and ima check on the flywheel key.. been readin and I’d almost bet it’s gone. Between those two things I think I may have got it! Time will tell when I get it back together. How do you check valve clearance?
I didnt check the valve clearance. I think you are better off asking another member who is more experienced but you may need a special tool for that I don’t really know. It probably is a good idea to use the torque specs though

What's the stated horsepower of your engine?

I have info that the OH195EA (your engine) has other designations. If it is 5.5 HP, it is a OHH55. If it is 6 HP it is OHH60. Sounds like the same basic engine block, but a half horsepower in difference. 😐
Found here: http://www.lausonpower.com/CustomerService/ServiceEnginesandAccessories.pdf

Anyway, why am I posting this? Because those can be used to find the torque specs from this manual:
https://www.smallenginesuppliers.co...h_4-Cycle_OHV_Engines_Service_Information.pdf
*Cylinder head bolts: 230 in. lbs.

I put the torque specs further down for those of you surfing DIYGK on a hell📱phone.

So? Every engine going to have problems. Or pretty much anything thats mechanical is going to have problems.
Depends on how much abuse and/or neglect an engine sees in it's lifetime.
I haven't met an engine there was enough left of to salvage that can defeat me if I decided to resurrect it.

The only "New" Tecumseh anyone is buying these days is one that sat on some dusty shelf forgotten because as of 2009 they were nolonger in production, and as of 2015 the engine maker officially and effectively doesn't exsist anymore... plenty of parts for them still around though

I've got a relatively useless B&S 4hp Flathead that had more rainwater than oil in its case... despite bad seals leaking oil you'd never know because it runs great after a full tear down and clean out.

Did the same thing to an early Model 212 Hemi (shares more parts in common with Non Hemi than the current revisions)fthat was sitting with the briggs in the same state of neglect, although I decided to cannibalize it because I don't think highly of them (Predator engines)

It's 195cc as seen on the first image you posted. Tecumseh put the HP info on a decal located in the middle of the recoil starter on the "Power Sport" engines so we cannot tell what horsepower yours is. Do you have the original recoil starter assembly? There should be a permanent serial number stamped somewhere on the engine. If it begins with OHH55 or OHH60, you will know the horsepower rating. I'm just wondering what it is.

To account for the horsepower differences between the two identical blocks with the same bore and stroke (seen in post #63), I think Tecumseh just re-jets the carburetor for more power. This allowed them to add other engines to their lineup for basically zero investment.

No I’ve only had the kart for maybe a month and that was the recoil starter. So no way of knowin really I guess. Assembly is the same mostly. The manual did decode what I do have. I don’t know why they wouldn’t have put that one the model decal with everything else.
