What did you do to take the slop out of the steering linkage? My Craftsman (an unmodded 14hp LT4000 I still mow with) has a solid 4-6 inches of slop, so much so that in 6th gear, it's hard to control, impossible to track.

I didn't see anything that stood out so if there's something you've done, pass it along! It'd help mine out a ton.

Those eager-1 motors are awesome runners! I have one one on my jeep gocart its setup like yours and it moves along just fine. You can have speed and you can have power just not at the same time lol

I replaced the shim that controls clearance between the gears with a thicker one made from a washer, then I took the slack out of the pinion gear carrier/steering shaft fit by slotting it as shown and making a bushing from a piece of copper pipe, a pipe clamp holds the whole thing together. It still is loose from gear wear but before it would not steer right(or straighten in a left turn) which made it really dangerous.

Just wondering what kind of gears you used. Did you use miter gears or bevel gears? I would like to know. I'm going to build a similar kind of vehicle with a mower engine and I wasn't sure about the gears for a vertical shaft engine.

I'm using an old 3 speed peerless rider transmission.

Screw this project! Look what I got for $7.

(engine was not included, nor was the clutch or cable, nor does that clutch fit that engine, **** 1" shaft)

Its gonna need new tires and bearing all around, and brakes. Eventually I would like to set it up like a Honda Gyro, with a 340cc reed port Suzuki Nomad engine.
