Streaker S465 live axle resto

Alright, I’m finally starting my own thread for this cute thing. I’ve been hijacking threads for to long! Now to the meat and potatoes. I bought this kart July ‘22. It’s a KenBar Streaker Pacesetter High Performance S465 ‘The Rebel’. All you really need to know is it’s a live axle streaker. So I’ll update this thread whenever things happen. Be prepared for shenanigans! My question is: do I need to remove these four (4) bolts to get the wheel off?
I ask because I’m removing the wheels for wire wheel sanding. Thanks and BIG thanks to thepartsguy for helping.

that is a split rim.....those four bolts will just split the rim in two pieces and the tire will fall out. To get that wheel off you either need a gear puller or use a 2x4 across the inside of the wheel and BAM....keep firmly whacking from the inside. .....wouldn't hurt to put a little penetrating oil on that axle.
Looks , from the rust, that you may need A LOT of penetrating oil on that project......I like CRC's Knocker loose penetrating oil !

I like red's idea of the 2x4 and a big HEAVY hammer. Don't think I've ever had one quite that rusty, but I've had luck with a large rubber mallet, just beating on the backside of the tire and rim of one that wouldn't budge no matter how hard
I pulled on it trying to shake or rock it side to side. A minute or two and it was off.

That’s a what I thought. Good idea on the 2x4, I’ll try that. It’s about now I’m happy I have a really big hammer. It’s so rusted it feels mechanically connected! Penetrating oil is being used in large amounts. And anti-seize will 100% go on everything.

If you look at the picture I’ve already taken off the center nut, and it had a split ring that came off with it.

Update: I’m working on getting this Wheel off, and as you know it’s split rim.this is the rear side of the wheel. Is that just a bracket to help hold the split rim together or is it helping the wheel stay on? Either way it’s quite seized and someone stole my rubber mallet (that’s code for: I can’t find it) and using a block of wood and a metal hammer is difficult. Just seeing if I can ease the suffering. I’m going to go keep beating.

you should be able to take those bolts off and that should take the tire and rim off, then youre left with just the hub and you could use a puller or somthing and youll have a better angle to hit it.

Already done. Thanks. I’m going to see if I have a 9/16 socket for an impact. It should make my work easier.

After removing the four bolts and pulling off the tire this is how I got the hubs off the axle. note penetrating oils did nothing. View attachment 136750View attachment 136751

I’m not even sure why I’m taking these things off. It will be easier to wire wheel sand when off.

Update: I didn’t get a whole lot done today but boy was it fun! I got to grips with wire wheel sanding and cut out some foam for seat back cushioning.

yeah if that don't do it the wheel ain't comin' off. I don't really need to take it off, it'll just make sanding and painting easier.

Alright I'm about to buy paint and I'm doing some research. I'm going to use Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover in Gloss Apple Red over Rust-Oleum self etching primer. I have a few questions. Does gloss hold up or should I go for a different sheen? What color primer should I get? Does it matter? How many cans do I need? I have a Streaker, no cage, it's fairly small. The plan is two coats of paint on primer. Thanks.

Does anyone have recommendations for primer? I'd like to use Rust-Oleum Apple red gloss for paint.

Edit: details. I have an old red paint that I'll scuff up for primer, and I might paint the wheels.
