On my stuck seat rails, after cleaning and spraying lots of penetrating oil I still had to put them in a vise and then with a block of wood and a hammer work them back and forth, a little bit farther each time. Once separated, a good coat
of grease and they are fine. Even with a rust dissolving agent, I doubt that they will pull apart by hand the first time. I had to do this on two different Yerf-Dog karts, having a sliding seat mechanism exactly like yours.

Tips for getting this nut off?I don’t think I have a socket this size so impact is not an option.

Go to your local auto-parts store and buy one. In the larger size stuff they sell them individually. You don't have to buy a whole set. I bought a 1&3/4 " at
Auto Zone and a 23 mm at Napa. Both times were for rear axle nuts and made the difference between success or frustration. Being able to buy just the one piece made it easier on the wallet as well.

Yep I'm going to get one. I already measured the nut and its 1&1/2.

Edit: Funny story actually on how I got the other side's nut off. I braced it with a big adjustable wrench and got the other side with another big adjustable wrench and pushed as hard as I could and it came off. Thanks for the advice Pancho as always, you teach well and have a lot of knowledge to share. Thank you.

I had a Carter Bros Kart I refinished a few years ago. I painted it that exact color of Rusto you mentioned and it turned out great! Great looking red for karts IMO.

Wow it did turn out great! Thanks man, it’s nice to see the color on a kart. I was I bit worried it would be too bright. What primer did you use?

I think I’ll do red body black accents like yours, it looks real good. I may do red wheel stripes as welll.

@Thepartsguy, what size is the rear axle nut on your Streaker? I ordered two different sockets (neither fit) and I went to HF with the same size nut and couldn’t find the correct size socket. Ideally it will survive a few trips through an impact.

UPDATE: So far I’ve been spending money getting my engine and some tools, and making the old hardware look pretty (not mention making a list of new needed) this has escalated to full restoration levels. I will leave no stone unturned even if I should. For any live axle streaker owners wondering, the axle nut on mine was 1-3/8. It only took three tries to get the right one… also, 1-3/8 socket is harder to find than you’d think. None at HF. I didn’t go anywhere else, I just ordered from The Jungle Store, and you can’t get ’em standard chrome, only impact. Alright, axle nut rant over. Here’s some go kart eye-candy:Anyone who has restored a car is probably cheering me on right now, I will make every effort to keep track of stuff.

yupp once those I guess we will call rivet bolts are out both bearing and flangettes will release from the hangers then slide the axle a bit and the axle is thin enough it will fall down through bottom slots in the hangers.
