Nothing like a good set of polished nuts,Lots more to do, not even counting wheels and the axleView attachment 137701I got this pretty picture tooView attachment 137702I had to Dremel the edge of the axle smooth and I polished it. The nut was also polished.
No, I haven't really tried. That sounds like the way I'm going to get them off. If they don't come off, I may have to perform 'surgery' by cutting it off carefully. Hammer first, though. Do you have a preference for rust removal? Wire wheels work but take some time, and rust remover stuff doesn't get to bare metal.Any luck on getting the bearings off? If not I would get some penetrating oil between the axle and bearing and let soak over night, then take a 2x4 piece on the bearing where it meets the axle and give it some whacks with hammer or small sledge. Put the axle in a vise of coarse. Good luck.
I'll have to try that, I've been using a cordless drill, not the best, and I run batteries out fast.A wire wheel on a angle grinder works the best for me. Bench grinder with a wire wheel for small parts. I prefer PB Blaster as a pen oil.
What style of WW do you use?Oh yeah, I've done the drill and wire wheel thing. It takes a lot longer. Grinder and wire wheel will fly through it!
I wish. I don't have a bench grinder... yet.Bench grinder with a wire wheel on it. The bigger the better!
i Ground the axle the way I wanted the bearing to slide off then hit the bearings directly with a hammer. threw them in the bath and back into the kart.I wish. I don't have a bench grinder... yet.
Almost. I just pushed myself back almost a day. The axle fell off my table on to a brick (!!!) floor. The sprocket was fine, darn thing is tuff. The end of the axle was not so lucky. Some end thread damage. Any idea on how to fix? I’ve got to eat some dinner, I’m hungry, then I’ll watch some videos and hopefully get back out there.Grinder for the win! At least now you can move on with the axle restoration.
