The Dremel works so much faster and easier than the wire wheel, no bucking like the drill and much more penetrating. New fav power tool, except for maybe the impact :devil2:

Any advice for getting these bearings off? They seem to be a bit damaged, and I’d like to replace this one, so I might as well replace both. Also, what am I looking for when buying them? Like keywords and things to look for.

Any luck on getting the bearings off? If not I would get some penetrating oil between the axle and bearing and let soak over night, then take a 2x4 piece on the bearing where it meets the axle and give it some whacks with hammer or small sledge. Put the axle in a vise of coarse. Good luck.

No, I haven't really tried. That sounds like the way I'm going to get them off. If they don't come off, I may have to perform 'surgery' by cutting it off carefully. Hammer first, though. Do you have a preference for rust removal? Wire wheels work but take some time, and rust remover stuff doesn't get to bare metal.

A wire wheel on a angle grinder works the best for me. Bench grinder with a wire wheel for small parts. I prefer PB Blaster as a pen oil.
I'll have to try that, I've been using a cordless drill, not the best, and I run batteries out fast.

Wanna see inside a kart bearing? No? I don’t care!IMG_3204.jpegthis friend here did the trick.IMG_3205.jpeg Figured cutting ‘em off would be easier than prying, they wouldn’t budge. I haven’t tried the other side yet.

Grinder for the win! At least now you can move on with the axle restoration.
Almost. I just pushed myself back almost a day. The axle fell off my table on to a brick (!!!) floor. The sprocket was fine, darn thing is tuff. The end of the axle was not so lucky. Some end thread damage. Any idea on how to fix? I’ve got to eat some dinner, I’m hungry, then I’ll watch some videos and hopefully get back out there.
