She’ll be my wife, I’ve already made up my mind about that. She agrees too which helps were not in any rush to get to the altar, but rest assured that we’re both in this for the long haul. I couldn’t ask for a better woman or more of a lady.
I love seeing these boys get to race and how they enjoy it. That makes all the work, money, and long nights worth it when I see the smiles on their faces. To see them win is huge to me because it’s huge to them, but I’ve made clear from the very beginning that it’s not expected. I’ll do what I can for them when it comes to the karts, but everything has to line up right to take the checkers before everyone else. I always tell them that as long as we have fun we’ve already won no matter where they finish.

Well, I was thinking about going racing tomorrow night, but when I pulled the motor I found the clutch bolt broken off in the crank.
It’s amazing how fast and far this has progressed, January 1st I had zero go karts, now we’re having to come up with go kart storage solutions.

Got started on fixing the broken bolt problem today. I decided to shorten the crank snout since I’m running a 10 tooth outboard clutch and I’m thinking that the distance from the side cover to the sprocket is giving it too much leverage and causing the side cover to keep coming loose.
I won’t lie, it felt a little strange taking a cutoff wheel to a nice stroker crank, but if you’re going to make an omelette.......

I have, it’s fine. I studded the side cover and went to solid dowels and it’s still coming loose. The clutch I’m running is a noram arena 10 tooth. Since the 10 tooth sprocket is too small to go over the crank they made a snout with a roller bearing on the end that moves the sprocket about an inch outside of the end of the crank (the sprocket is lined up with the outside of my chain guard) .I think it has too much leverage on the crank and is causing too much load on the side cover given the power this engine is making. We’ll see I guess.

This is the situation with the clutch. Hopefully this will help. It can’t hurt.
I think I’m going to epoxy the dowel pins in the block and side cover when I put it back together this time. It’ll be getting a billet side cover pretty soon.

I got my crank cut down and retreaded and was working on putting the chain guard on when a bolt stripped. We scaled the karts for the boys and made some changes to help them handle better, and those changes helped. We still are having issues with them getting loose coming off of the corners, but we got the corner entry working better. We’ll keep taking baby steps until we get them where we want them. They were good enough for two second place finishes and we stayed after the races and tried different adjustments using a stopwatch to test results. Today the boys got to clean their own karts. I went back over them when they were done to make sure they were as clean as we could get them.

Yesterday was my birthday and the GF got me a GoPro. It’s not the latest or greatest, but it’s simple and I am too, so it’s perfect. This also means that once I get it all figured out there will be some (probably crappy) point of view go kart racing videos.
I also finally am happy enough with the chassis on both of the boys karts to start using tire prep. The amount of bite it adds is incredible, and I want to get the handling issues sorted out before I started using prep because I didn’t want to band aid and handling issues with it, but add to an already solid setup with more traction.
We’re going too Florida for a week Wednesday so we’ll be a couple of weeks out on racing again, but I’ll update when it happens. I may post some beach pics too.

Picked up a valve seat cutter set, a carb reamer, a lifter bore home, and a connecting rod small end hone. I’m going to step my game up a little.
My open motor already has a big valve head, but I have a much bigger valve head that should be here later this week or early next week. I had both of those built by one of the best in the business, and will continue to use him for my big motors, but I’m going to take a whack at doing some big valve 14cc heads. I have my eye on the hemi predator on the #11 kart for a test mule. Stay tuned for results.

Jet Payne is what he goes by on Facebook. The guy sells a lot of really cool parts and tools on eBay. The seat cutter kit goes for $100, but the hones and carb reamer don’t come with it.

We had the track to ourselves today for a private test and tune. It got dry and slick, and we forgot we had the GoPro so we didn’t get a lot if video, but I’ll post what we got once I remembered we had it once I figure out how to download the videos. In the meantime, here’s some pictures of me cutting up for the camera since it was too dry and slick to go very fast.

I need to learn how to edit everything a little better, but as it is with most things, this will be a learning process.
The oldest boy hit the wall pretty hard in the black #11 kart, but the track was dry and bad slick. We were just doing photo sessions and he wasn’t hurt, so no harm done.
We’re racing next weekend, and my 70 year old dad is going to drive mine so we’ll have more footage after that.

I was talking to Jet about that silly looking ultralight someone was gonna buy...not me pal...y'all go ahead...I've flown in some raggedy **** and I've even done some jerry rigging of my own as a flight mechanic to get some **** home but there's no way in **** was I flying in something like that LOL

I wanna know how things go with you and your tools and engine work and that go pro so put it to good use!!!
