I had a good one yesterday...
NOT!
After it has, pretty much, sat for 2 months, now that Spring has hit, I had to get the riding mower out; I bought a trickle charger about a month ago so, the battery was good but, it took a while to start; it eventually started, ran for around 30 seconds to a minute, started hunting & then died; 30 seconds later, it would start up again & repeat the process...
It wasn't difficult to deduce a fuel delivery issue, the question was
why?
The last thing I recall doing that affected the fuel system was fitting a new inline tap (the hose is 1/4" but the tap is only 3/16"); after checking the flow before & after the tap (heavy flow before the tap, trickle after), I deduced the tap was the cause of the problem. I removed & replaced the whole hose with a new single length of hose & tried again; can anyone guess what happened?
WRONG! It did
exactly the same thing! Now I'm thinking "maybe the new hose is too small?" So, I headed to the local mower shop for some new fuel hose; he says "just put a filter in the line" & starts digging for a 1/4" filter; he also said "it sounds like a carb issue"...
Back home, I refitted the original hose with the new filter in the line &, you wouldn't believe it, it did
exactly the same thing!

Now I'm starting to lose it, swearing & cursing & throwing &... oh wait... now I remember...
When I bought this thing, it was leaking fuel out of the fuel bowl, indicating a high float level so, I adjusted the float accordingly;
maybe I adjusted it too far?
So, I pulled the float, tweaked it a bit, put it back together & it ran flawlessly

Then I put the tap back in the line, just to see what would happen; no change

SO, the lessons learned?
1. ALWAYS remember what you've done previously, it could save you a
LOT of time & frustration
2.
