First I built a Razor kart because I knew it would be quicker and I needed something to ride ASAP. Now that its pretty much wrapped up I've gained more confidence to continue my monster street kart.

Manco Dingo 285
11" wide rears, 9" wide fronts.
16kw Motenergy motor
96v 200amp Kelly Controller
Batteries will be Lipos if they come back in stock at HK. I've been using Lipos in RCs for over a decade. I know the risks and take proper precautions.
My plan is to run 24s 40AH and they are going up front under my legs for better weight distribution.

Kart would be able to go way too fast but I plan on keeping it at 50mph unless that gets boring.

I got the disc brake setup today and the motor mount is also complete. Next is a mount for the controller and extending the braking rod.

I chose the Dingo 285 because it's the same thing as the coveted American Express which resembles vintage racer karts. I didn't want a modern race kart chassis because they have no ground clearance. I also like the Dingo because I can put the large stock size tires on for serious off-roading.


Kart should weight about 180lbs ready to run versus my Razor kart at 110lbs.

I put a big 10kW motor on a Dingo 285 a couple of years ago :thumbsup:
...but, was very disappointed by the performance :mad:

But, I was using "old school" heavy Lead Acid batteries
...only ran it @ 36V :huh:

The worst thing was the steering (it was awful/nearly non existent)

With all of that weight (100+ lbs.) right over the "live axle"
...the steering was more like a suggestion than a command :mad2:

...I just hope it steers better than mine did :lolgoku:

I learned a lot from your build FA. That's the reason why I'm not doing everything over the rear end. If I had more room the controller would come up front also. My motor with mount is 44lbs plus another 8lbs for the controller, a 6.5hp predator is 38lbs so I'm about 15lbs heavier over the rear axle. My batteries should be around 45lbs placed right behind the steering linkage. Hopefully it will steer well.

Changed directions for battery power. Going with a 64v 45Ah LG Chem battery. Weighs 40lbs and can do 400amp continuous. Got the controller mounts welding up. Now I need a battery mount.

I will be going with a hydraulic brake in the future since the mechanical brake isn't up to the task.

Finally got another milestone complete. The motor is on the kart for good, chain installed and sprockets aligned. All wiring and switches are crimped, soldered, loomed and verified to work including the contactor.

On/Off Switch for contactor
Resistor and diode on contactor
Brake Switch
Reverse Switch
Two speed switch
Battery disconnect switch
Anderson battery connectors
150 amp breaker for now, maybe I'll go up to 200 amps

With my 16s battery the motor maxes out at ~4800rpm which should be good for ~56mph which I think I'll hit given the power of this motor.

Things I have left to do
Mount the switches in the lexan switch mount
Install the brake fluid for the hydraulic brakes
Add a wire box above the controller
Zip the wire runs in place
Make sure everything is set and tight

Tomorrow should be the day.

Switches are mounted
Wires are sleeved and routed
Brakes were bled

Will double check all the nuts and bolts
Bolt the wheels on (tires already mounted)

Will still need a wire box to protect all the connectors but I'll get that done later. They are securely tied up above the controller for now.

My top speed is 47mph with a battery that was sitting at 59v which isn't high enough to hit my 5k rpm cutoff.

The kart weighs 208lbs and I'm 203lbs.

After hitting it hard for 10 minutes the motor and heatsink on the esc are barely warm.

Next step is to get a stronger brake pedal, this stock Manco pedal is too flimsy.

I'm pulling over battery 200amps about 1 second after takeoff. My meter just shows FFF past 200amps.

Anyway, its awesome.

11 inch tall tires.
2.65 gear ratio
Kelly KLS 8080h 96500 controller
ME1611 motor (custom version of ME1012)
LG Chem 16s 45ah battery

Awesome build! Are you able to break the rear tires loose? Next you need some pvc sleeves for the rear tires. :D

They are not breaking loose on the street so far, maybe it's because they are 9 inches wide. It definitely has grunt but not immediately, the power hits about 10 feet into take off. I may try adjusting the controller again to see if I can get more bottom end grunt.

I have full power from the moment I touch the throttle. Who knew whiplash could be so fun! :wai:


Match these settings: *volts should be whatever you are using



And I am also using these settings.

I have a KLS-H and use the BT app. My settings options are different and the things I have changed are KP and TPS MAP.

Oh yeah, your setup was brushed. Mine is brushless. That's why I have different settings. Could also be why you had just great instant torque off the line.

Worth emailing Kelly and asking Fany if there is a setting you can adjust.
