I had an old russian bike and the gear lever was the kick start.Use to kick start it then move the kick down and then you used kick as your gears.Sure it was a cz 125.And some sweedish bikes have left footed kick and chain on left.(husaburgs few more).I thought all or most russian bikes where like that.Like on page one of this thread theres a guy who lives right next to russia and hes saying the same as what im going to say, these engines are not built good at all.My cz blew up after a month or 2.But i grilled the bike all the time. But once you've done project or even while your doing project, who knows what bargins can pop up engine wise

MZ (Motorrad- und Zweiradwerk GmbH) is a German-produced bike, though the factory on which it was built, originally was started by a somewhat famous danish inventer named: Jorgen Skafte Rasmussen.
See wiki-link below for more detailed history.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MZ_Motorrad-_und_Zweiradwerk

The CZ (Česká zbrojovka) is a Czechoslovakian motorcycle brand, is, and has always been, considered as a worse bike then the MZ, not that any of them were anything special. They both were cheap, badly manufactured bikes, however the price made them interresting for some people.
Wiki-link below.

Lastly, someone mentioned something about russian bikes in general were of poor quality, compared to the CZ !
That might very well be true, but acturely, motorcycle enthusiasts considder the MZ to be a way better bike than the CZ.
But, Walter Keller from Florida, USA, mentioned the Russian Ural-bikes in #12 on page 1 in this thread.
The Ural-bike is produced in Russia yes, and it may be, that russian bikes in general are crap, however the Ural-bike is acturally an old BMW-construction, stolen by the soviets, during WW2.
The Soviet Defence Ministry simply bought 5 brand new bikes, then let russian engineers dismantle theese bikes and do reversed engineering on them.
They acturaly got away with that pretty good, cause the Ural has a reputation for being reliable, strong, and easy to fix in case of mechanical trouble.
In western-europe, Ural-bikes are hard to come by, and even their age, and simple, somewhat uncomfortable construction taken in to consideration, theyre greatly apreciated, and respected amongst motorcycle-enthusiasts, also the Ural-bikes are quite expensive !
Especially the ones with sidecar, were the sidecars wheel is coupled to the bikes rear-wheel in order for the sidecar to pull, as well as the bike itself, is considdered an interesting and valuable model.

Just a bit information about the buggy build.
I can do real progress after 2 months, when there is a week long spring break...
Its not very pleasant to build too, its so cold and dark during winter, its really depressing.. :furious2:
I wish i could live in a warmer place.... :rolleyes3:

Hello, im back!
Have done some work on the buggy: attached clutch and brake pedal, put some wheels on the back, attached a base plate and had a little test drive! :D

Hi again!
Havent done a lot of work at all during the summer(grandfather passing away and things like that.) But the buggy is slowly coming together! Also got a nice racing wheel from the flea market...in Portugal.:D So the wheel made a 4000km trip to Estonia! :D
To do list:
Need to mount the brake caliper and disk.
Need to get a brake line made.(its impossible to make the bent back ends at home).
Make mounts for the gas tank.
Need to figure out a nice way to attach the clutch cable to the pedal.
Weld some missed spots and tacked parts.
Paint.
Rebuild engine.
Wiring.
New nuts and bolts.

After that I need to get some better shocks...
