Well, one of those is strong enough to handle the of the whole GVW and then some. Thread a hook on the top of the rig and ya can hang it from the ceiling, with one. So, yeah 5/16 bolts would be adequate.
I'll thread the flanges 1/2 x 20 RH! the area of concern is the flange thickness @ 3/16. 3/16 is plenty thick but for maybe the threads.
At that the threads will be fine for the vehicle weight, but if you have a gorilla on your pit crew, 3/16 of threads will yield to a 1/2 breaker with a gorilla on the end. Run a backup nut or weld a nut on the back. Ya know ya can buy "weld nuts", right?

Hey T,
No, gorillas around here
...but, I agree backup nuts can be added

Weld nuts?
...ain't all nuts weld(able) nuts?

* Ta work on/help mock up the front suspension, I welded up a backyard/DIY steel hub
SAM_1541 (1).JPG
It's just a "prop" (literally)
...& no where near actually usable
SAM_1546 (1).JPG
But, I can mount a wheel on to it
...& then, use it ta work on A-frame positioning

Weld nuts are not plated so ya don't kill yerself. Made from different material, and they are usually round cuz dey meant to be welded. Thats why they call 'em weld nuts.
& no where near actually usable
chances are these won't be either!

yes almost all nuts are weldable and thats what everyone uses. Brought that up just as a tid bit of usless info.

Egor got going on the wheel flanges today.
In order to make these things concentric to the hub a fixture is required. It to has to be concentric. So 3 plates were stacked and turned. Why screw 'em up one at at time?

So far, the wheel bolt circle is concentric to the hub within .002 Only a couple more chances to scrap 'em!

INFO NEEDED!!

I checked the CAD files (in post #86) to locate the OD dimension of the wheel flange. It seems that info might be missing. I do not believe it is a critical dimension as long as it fits the wheel. However the QC department got wind, and now production is "on Hold" until a dimension is settled on. The process of turning octagons into circles has left us with a current and maximum diameter of 5.3125 inch (5-5/16)
If the stack needs a smaller OD we need to know what it is before removing it from the fixture.

Ya wont be bending that.
doesn't look like you could use 'em here, but
l find these weld tabs useful for lotsa things. Saves a lot of work makin that stuff.

Hey T,

We needed a good-n-strong way to attach/mount the spindle brackets to the A-frames
...& also, to mount the lower end of the coil-over shocks
SAM_1678 (2).JPG
So, I made up a couple of these dual-purpose (spindle & shock mount) custom gussets

They give us a nice & easy to work with surface, for setting the Caster, when mounting the spindle brackets
...& supplies a lot of welding area for mounting, them spindle brackets on good-n-strong
...& also, increases the (spindle bracket to A-frame) attachment area dramatically

Thanks for the link some of that stuff would come in very handy :cheers2:
