naaaaa, i wan't to keep the look, plus a good ol' two stroke will get me to about 15mph, which on something this tiny would be insane to say the least!

heres some pics! i think the seat turned out good, its comfy too! Not bad for 6 bucks of vinyl, a home made needle, and some fishing line eh? Lol

yea its nice, i'm not sure the cops here are so up beat about people driving around on karts....... unfortunately i can't ride it on certain roads, and the only way to leave my neighborhood on a road is by going on one of those "special" roads...... have to be sixteen too, only 3 yrs to go....

well, i cut up all the pipe over the weekend, and today i got the frame tacked together, its encouraging to finally see something taking shape! i'm just going to mention, this thing is really tiny! the helmet i will be wearing is nearly as big as the frame! LOL. I also threw in the engine and it fits!

got a bit of a crazy schedule, looking to finish by tues:

tomorrow- get all parts on frame, roll it around, take parts off, weld everything.

Saturday- test, then fix any problems, then work on fenders and gas tank

Sunday- prep, and paint.

mon, or tues- put parts on and ride after paint dries!

p.s. i can get some pics if anyone wants.

hmmm, the post i just responded to has disappeared, :ninja:

One question i have, the two "triple trees" i believe there are called are made from 1/8"x 1" flat bar, spanning 4". do you guys think i should add some more support to it? i was thinking i could possibly make the bottom triple tree into a piece of angle iron. i should probably just do it, its not really much more work.......

made some decent progress today. its starting to look like a mini!

got the gas tank mounted, finished forks, installed bushings for forks, made bracket for brake, mounted engine :wai: (just fits in the frame!), widened frame a bit to allow for chain clearance, widened forks so i could center tire, and made brackets for seat.

i still have too:
install chain tensioner.
make adapter for exhaust pipe.
finish gas tank.
make fenders (already have the pieces drawn out on sheet metal so i just need to cut them out).
make fender struts.
make sprocket hub( also have this drawn out so i just need to cut it out and weld it on).

then weld, test, trouble shoot, disassemble, prep and paint, reassemble. lets hope it works good the first time!

its actually pretty comfy to sit on!, i will have to compare it to a pocket bike sometime. anyone think its worth making some plans and selling them?

i got more done today, doesn't sound like much, but it all really required a lot of work:
1.i made an adapter for the exhaust, looks pretty good if i can say so myself!
2. i finished the gas tank, just need to clean it out tomorrow (you think acetone followed by soap water, then water, then gas would clean it out good?)
3. this took the most time, i made a hub for the rear sprocket, not having the correct hole saw to drill out the center it took quite a while.

tomorrow i just need to make spacers, install the chain tensioner, install brake cable stop, then weld every thing up. after i weld it and test it, i will make fenders if i have time.

and sorry, but no pics today....

Ok, sorry about not getting up very many pics, but i have bean really busy, working most days 8am to 8pm when i can, sometimes kipping lunch. any way i got he thing welded and assembled just in time! but no chance to start it up (although i did ride down some hills with the chain removed).
i have a feeling the super low gearing (about 9.6:1) will make push starting very challenging, i will either have to:

1.do nothing because it is very easy to push start
2. have to change the gear ratio.
3. install either kick, electric, or recoil start.

out of those options, i would LOVE a kick start! fit the vintage style perfectly!

and just to clear up any confusion, when i say i feel th engine will be hard to start, i mean it will put up a lot of resistance while starting, not that the engine wont run.

homemade:
sprocket hub
frame and forks
seat
fuel tank (non leaking) with a gas cap made from a 1 1/4" pipe cap.
exhaust adapter.

probably some other stuff i forgot too.

any way, pics!

p.s. i learned the hard way that #41 and #415 chain have different pin diameters. i bought a #41 half link for the mini, and a #40 half link for the kart, after finding out that the #41 half link pin didn't fit in the #415 chain (even though it says it should here.... no that i think about it again the #41 would also have been too wide to fit the #415 chain). anyhow, i used the roller and bushing from the #415 chain, the side plates from the #40 half link, and the pin with cotter pin from the #41 half link, all taken apart, and hammered and pressed into a homemade #415 half link! sorry if all that is a bit confusing :D

pics of the:
mini (without paint :()
exhaust adapter thing/manifold/pipe/ whatever :D
spark plug just clearing the seat! a little heat shield too!
my fenders (at the moment :roflol:)

EDIT: still pondering how i want the levers to be arranged....

that sucks! i would be REALLY annoyed if that happened (actually like the second time i drove my kart i came back, pulled into the driveway, a cop came by, slowed down, began to turn ( i'm like ohhhhh **** at this point) and pulled into my neighbors drive way. then started talking to my neighbors about the stuff they got stolen from there cars, i had a sigh of relief and pushed my kart into the bushes. later i talked to my neighbor, he said that he was a really cool cop that his family knew, he bet me 10 bucks the cop wouldn't have given a crap, and possibly asked for a ride! :roflol)

wow..... i didn't know i wrote that much! :roflol:

i'm curious to check the laws in Connecticut, in mass pocket bikes, and mopeds with 50cc or less engine displacement are road legal on small roads with a license, and pocket bikes don't actually need to be registered (free! but no plates :().

i would bet if you get a license or permit (is it 16 in CT?) in few years you can throw like a 50cc pit bike engine in your mini bike and go crazy fast, then get pulled over by the cops and laugh at them when they see its legal! :roflol:

back on topic:
thanks! i cant wait to get some more things on it! my ideal scenario would include:

analog speedometer
chrome bullet headlight (engine has generator for headlight)
fenders
kick start
drivers license, maybe plates (that will have to wait a little over 2 years......)
and a sweet paint job!!!!!!!!!!! (will look 10x better with paint so the parts like the muffler stand out)
maybe even a little cargo rack to carry stuff to the beach, or to friends houses?
kick stand

also, my friend has this old go kart, and his dad has several grand of welders and shop equipment sitting in there huge garage (along with back hoes, dump trucks, quads, and lots of land, with trails of course!). anyway, lets just say were discussing some crazy plans for it! wheelie bar anyone? :D

i bet you could sell the thing for 500 or so. it looks real solid and nice.

im going to look up the laws, when my friend got pulled over he called me, and the cop wanted my parents to come down, we had a chat about how he got complaints so i have to not ride it anymore.

he had no clue what the laws were so he said just stay off the road.

im going to look them up, if it is legal, i will continue to make the bike nicer, (buy new pull start, on board battery, wire up starter, ETC. a headlight would be nice if i keep a 12v battery on it.

congrats with your build, thats probably the coolest mini-mini ive ever seen!
