Here is my first attempt at building a go kart.
Its got a 5 HP Tecumseh engine ($50) running with a 4:1 Drive ratio, to 11" wheels. We used the no-weld spindle design, then welded some stuff anyways because some of the spindle pieces looked wayy too flimsy. The chair was kindly donated from the... umm... math department.
Myself and 4 other people took about 3 weeks of work to get it going. Biggest issue was parts, our only source was Princess Auto, which was outside of town (toronto, ontario is where we live).
We just fired it up today and its maddd quick! not to mention its drifts like mad in the snow... Due to the engine being behind the rear axle the front end tends to wash out a little.
About 10 minutes into testing we managed to blow out the drive tire. turns out we inflated the tires last week when it was still warm so the pressure dropped along witht the temp. So it blew out!!
