Here is my first attempt at building a go kart.

Its got a 5 HP Tecumseh engine ($50) running with a 4:1 Drive ratio, to 11" wheels. We used the no-weld spindle design, then welded some stuff anyways because some of the spindle pieces looked wayy too flimsy. The chair was kindly donated from the... umm... math department.

Myself and 4 other people took about 3 weeks of work to get it going. Biggest issue was parts, our only source was Princess Auto, which was outside of town (toronto, ontario is where we live).

We just fired it up today and its maddd quick! not to mention its drifts like mad in the snow... Due to the engine being behind the rear axle the front end tends to wash out a little.

About 10 minutes into testing we managed to blow out the drive tire. turns out we inflated the tires last week when it was still warm so the pressure dropped along witht the temp. So it blew out!! :mad2:

Ya the one time we took it out it was FAST! it was like half snow half tarmac and a bit of ice. We were drifting like mad. As for the tubing, I have no idea whatsoever. We just used whatever we could find in the shop scrap pile. We're painting it now so next time we run it it doesnt insta-rust on us.

Update

Just a quick update on the go kart.

The Tire was replaced and is ready to go.

Then we decided we were tired of cleaning off all the water and rust off the kart every time we ran it so it has be disassembled and is getting its coat of primer

Heres some more pics

The only ice we get around here comes in cones :(

You can comfortably play all year round. Michigan has four seasons.

Too hot
nice weather
too cold
mud pit

As you can see I only accomplish stuff outside a few moths every year. The rest is pent in a chair by the air unit or wood stove, sometimes in mud pit I get the motivation to play some video games.
