Sandpaper + Briggs head

He's trying to port the head for better flow. Need a dyno to show any improvement there.

That valve area... was my... couple months ago work. I'ma smooth that out later.

Just trying to increase a tad o' compression for my 3HP. It looks MUCH better than the properly-milled 5HP head of mine. This one looks rougher, but feels MUCH smoother.

Any insight on how well it worked Tyler?

Wait a minute.....Are you saying you sanded the gasket surface? If so it look's pretty smooth. I'd be a bit concerned about how flat it is. Might need to lap the head afterward's. And are you asking me to guess how well that head already worked? If so just show me a dyno sheet and we'll see.

Yes... I duct taped a piece of 80 grit to a piece of glass, then 320 grit... And I just sanded it lightly for around 2 hours or so (lightly...).

Doesn't seem to have any "play" to it, and is virtually dead flat on glass + my table (literally no play).

i just got done doing mine like his and its way flatter than a stock one, i did the head and the and the block deck then i took two motors one stock one with no (sanding) done to the head and the block deck and the other one with the block and the head (sanded) both block heads where torqued too factory specs with NO gaskets then i took a feeler gauge and i was useing .0015, i could NOT fit a .0015 feeler gauge any where around the block, the other block was stock Not sanded nothing and i could fit a feeler gauge almost all the way around the block besides two or three places.
i think its safe to do just be VARY careful on what sand paper you use and the surface you
put the sand paper on
and dont go fast and you may go threw a lot of sand paper....

Lol a file isnt even all that flat and you cant do the entire head at once. You know your redneck when you cant even spell your country's name right! I'll admit I'm a bit redneckish myself but not that bad. Sand paper and head's never mix around my shop.

Nah, I heard this on 4cycle last summer. Except he used a ... circular sander + a block.

people use glass + sandpaper to lap computer chips. i tried it on a head, but it kept ripping it.

weve done it on a car block too. sealed great. just got to take your time
