This karts been about 65~70 mph already with a 12hp GX240 motor, and runs about 55~60 on the road course. The frame is a production race kart, (not sure of the manufacturer though), and the spindles were built off a jig I made from the original spindles. They just needed to be a lot longer to accommodate the brake components, and I wanted to add some Ackerman, which the original spindles didn't have. I fought that thing all day yesterday, finally got the carb to stop flooding only to find that the fuel pump isn't working, rebuilt that with some new check valves, now something is plugged on the low side (probably the low side jet), it doesn't want to idle at all, the floor pan tore loose at the rear and is sagging on the ground, the rear exhaust tab broke off the expansion chamber, so the pipe is rattling around, and I still haven't gotten the front brakes plumbed or bled, although I have all the fittings now. I plan to go over to my buddy's later today and build a new stronger floor pan out of aluminum diamond plate, or stainless sheet, whichever I can find at the barn. That one was on the kart when I got it, I knew it wasn't factory, it was pretty weak, it looked homemade and it was about half as thick as it should have been, and it was on the list to be replaced anyway, just gotta do it now rather than later. I WAS gonna wait till I dis-assembled the whole thing for paint to do the new floor pan. I gotta weld a new tab on the expansion chamber, and rubber mount it this time. Since I have another week to prepare and do some testing, and have all the critical parts, I should be ready to make it to the track this next Friday.
Here's a few pics I took last night, just before heading home...
