I guess looks can be deceiving, it's actually 20.5" flange to end, and the muffler is incorporated, sort of like a glasspack with no glass in it. I drilled 2 rows of (5) 5/16" or 3/8" holes all the way through the pipe at 90° to each other, then slipped the bigger diameter pipe over that section of pipe and welded it. It's mellow enough to keep the neighbors from complaining, but you can still hear it pretty well on the track.

Ohh I ment when all you had was a flange like 4" long.

Gotcha, I just stop and take pics every so often, like when I complete some substep of the process, I didn't even realize there was a pic in there like that, , now I gotta go back and look,

Yep, that was in the mockup stage, while I was looking for pieces of pipe to finish the header with, good eye,

OK, new seat, sprocket and hub, new steering support, 2 clutch cables and still don't have the right one, made a jig to build my new spindles, waiting on spindle tubes, new spindle bearings, and STILL waiting on apskarting to get the new hubs I need in stock so I can order them. Here's some new pics.....

That's the shift lever and clutch lever laying in the floor pan in the above pic, already fabricated, but not mounted yet, waiting on the correct clutch cable to know how best to build and attach it.
You can see the "new to me" seat in the above pic and the new adjustable seat mounts in next few pics.

The reason for moving the steering shaft support was to make more room for the shifter handle without crowding my right leg, and also to make room for some forward seat adjustment if necessary. I forgot to take pics of the new hub and sprocket, I'll get some of them tomorrow.

Here's the rear sprocket:

This is what I came up with for cooling, at least for the time being, just gotta come up with a mounting system:

Rick that thing would be bad *** to take to the drags when it is done...hahah.

Oh btw. did you see that kart chassis on CL orlando that was stretched for a streetbike motor? It was like 200 bucks. I am poor right now and I do not think it would fit in my PT cruiser so I cant have it...hahah

Yeah, I sent the guy an email asking for some pics, he said he MIGHT drag it out and take some pics sometime and he'd let me know.....:toetap05::toetap05:
Guess he doesn't really wanna sell it too badly......
My old boss and I may be going to look at a "Trick?" shifter kart sometime later today if the guy will call one of us back. It's only a few miles from my house, and we may go stop in for a visit with a guy that has a few Vegas sitting around too. I've been wanting to get another one every since I sold my 427 Vega. This one will be smallblock, full chassis, or at least backhalfed, and definitely a drag oriented machine, might go street legal, but that would be a secondary goal, primary being a 10 second (or 6 second 1/8 mile) drag racer.

You could pick up a single or double jetski trailer for like $100~$200, ( I have a friend that buys and sells them all the time for about that cost), take off the bunks and do an angle iron framework and plywood or expanded metal floor, voila, a cheap, lightweight kart trailer,:idea2::idea2:

Thats cool man. I could always get a cheap harbor freight trailer if I needed to. I live in an apartment though. So I would need to store that kart in poinciana at my GF moms. That creates another PITA in its own. 26 miles to go pick up and drop off a kart..haha

Are you a mechanic for your day job?

Yes, I'm an ASE Master Automotive Tech, and run the shop at Yellow Cab of Kissimmee and Autos Unlimited (car sales and auto repair). I kinda specialize in fabrication and performance work, but do everything but transmission repairs.

I am going to have to start looking for someone to do a clutch in my 2006 PT Cruiser. 33k miles and I am having problems. Apparently there are MANY people who report the same problem I am having throughout all the PT forums. Any idea what something like that will cost. I do not want to put another factory clutch in.

OK, here's my new fabricated spindles and brake mounting hardware:

I built a jig off my old spindles to get the angle correct and keep it there while I was tacking them together, then mocked up the whole thing on the kart with the rotors and calipers mounted to the kart to get the caliper mounting brackets and steering arms tacked on. This is the result:

Got a Kawasaki Mohave radiator in yesterday too, forgot to take any pics of it, but it needs cleaning up anyway, so I'll take pics after, and while getting it mounted.

So you thinking this will be ready for next weekend? If so let me know if you are heading to the track. I will make sure I am there. I can shoot a little video of this thing in action for everyone.

One of Andre's customers had a 125cc Tony Kart Shifter on the drag strip last night. He was running about 80mph but it was out of control. The thing was slipping and sliding all over the place

If EVERYTHING goes right I might make it this next weekend, but more likely next weekend. I still have to mount the whole cooling system, the ignition system, fuel pump, I'm adding at least another bearing to the rear axle, which means extending the inside tube of the frame back, may do both sides for 4 new bearings and cassettes. I'm not happy with the shift lever either, so that's getting cut off and starting over from scratch. The new one should work good now that I've prototyped it and figured out what I/it need(s). Got some carb parts coming too, gotta see how they work out, it was flooding before just being temporarily gravity fed. I ordered a needle and seat that's supposed to work with a fuel pump and a new float. My bike shop guy says all I need is one float, stock has dual floats, I hope he's right. He offered to let me use one of his Lectrons if we don't get the carb dialed in, but they are/were set up for alcohol, not sure I want to fool with that. He runs an alcohol drag Banshee that goes low 6s/high 5s in the 1/8,
I want to try to get it over to my friend Sam's shop and scale it and align it before I take it out too.

Been slacking a little on this thread cuz I've been busy doing stuff to take pics of.
Got the front spindles and brakes almost done:

Here are the steering arm and caliper mounting bracket:

Brakes:

Picked up a nice radiator on Ebay for cheap:

It didn't look like that when I got it, of course, it's almost amaxing what cresylic acid will do,

Added some more frame and another bearing to the rear axle, along with replacing the old bearings and adding some new lightweight cassettes, (great swap deal with my friend Joe from the kart track for the Wildkart Metric hubs I didn't wanna use), this should stiffen up the rear of the kart quite a bit, also got a nice new drag chain:

to be continued....

...continued.... ;)

Also re-did the shifter, I like it a LOT better now:

Got some carb parts coming in today, (new float and a "fuel pump friendly" needle and seat), and hopefully the new chain tensioner too, then I can start rigging the fuel pump, CDI and coil mount to it's new location on the back of the seat. After that, it will be time to tackle the cooling system, then maybe some TESTING, :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :D
