Revenge of the tarp

so begins the cat and mouse game

tarp has to be down by Wed morning (2/15), there is a slight chance of rain tomorrow so I'll take it down tomorrow night, hopefully my cameras will be diligent in capturing the neighborhood services inspection vehicle so I know he's come and gone

however the extended forecast indicates rain this coming weekend so either Friday night, or Saturday morning, it's going back up for the weekend

I did learn last time, to lay low for a couple weeks to make sure all inspections are over, had I done that at that time, I probably could've had the tarp up that whole time

who knows, he might magically disappear one night and I have no idea what happened, I didn't hear anything, I was asleep with my 3 girls locked securely in my home

anyway, got the whole thing down in roughly 20 minutes and with clear skies till the weekend, I was at peace with the process, especially when loosening those clamps I made

uh.... what tarp/awning/structure were you referring to?!

Can you paint the tarp to match the colors of the house. so that from the street it looks like the side of your house?

and the tarp is back up! it only took me 35 minutes, I'm getting good!

we have 100% chance of rain this weekend, I'll take it down President's day and leave it down for at least a week to make sure they've come out to verify

welp, the neighborhood menace is laying low since the PD has been a huge presence in the hood lately, so I think if I lay low for another week or so, I can put it back up, just need to make sure they've had ample time to inspect

now, the beauty of the situation I assume, the dipsh!t has seen the tarp since reporting it (maybe), he'll assume the city had no quarrel with it and wont call on it again

I was finally issued a citation for the tarp, quoting that awnings must be 2' away from the property line

to date the city has called it a tarp, a structure, an awning

so off I went to court in my prospect cut to fight the citation, the city inspector met me outside the court room and showed me his notes, he was actually pretty cool or was at least faking it

what we discovered in the courtroom is that the city is loosely describing my tarp as an awning or an open carport, the court does not like that however, the judge read the definitions as written by the city for those items and the inspector had to admit my tarp did not meet those definitions

the judge dismissed the citation and the inspector met me outside again, he told me as long as my tarp "stops" 3' or more from the property line I can leave it up forever

but I don't want to leave it 3' from the property line, as you've seen in my videos in other threads, I have shelves of inventory along that wall that I don't want getting rained on

so on one hand I'm tempted to put it back up the way it has been and take my chances with the next citation, if they cant properly define it, they cant fine me

on the other hand can I get creative, and design a hinge type of system that allows me to fold the tarp down towards the ground at the 3' mark, but be able to fold it back, making it straight, covering those 3' in the event of rain

I have some drawings done for a hinge system but it will be very difficult in real life

a coworker suggested I get some faux trees and attach them to my wall and RV gate to hide the tarp behind, that sounds kind of cool if it can be done right

How hard would it be to do an extendable boom for it? Pull a rope and it goes all the way out, then when you're done, pull the rope in the opposite direction and it returns. Might be a bit more compact than the hinge type, or not.

He might go batty trying to find the leak, possibly spending lots of money for mechanics to find a non-existent leak.
He might get rid of his car.
He might have a neighbor call the EPA for a leaking auto.

A rubber room may eventually await him.

Welp, I just put it back up, and after a few weeks of peace and quiet I thought it was a done deal. Got another notice, but at least it wasn't a citation. I did find another HF tarp that could use my existing set up and would be about 4.5' from the wall. Inspector is coming out Thursday to talk and maybe share some solutions. Then today I remember I have Hyatt legal coverage through work. So I'm meeting with a lawyer Wednesday. I believe the lawyer will either say "get the darn thing 3' back" OR say "tell the city to pound sand and here's why..."
