Tell the city to eat a "chicken" meat sandwich and "bug" off. Glad you are getting some legal advice, hopefully they'll get you in the right direction that'll be beneficial to you.

the lawyer wasn't super helpful, he really just kept talking about the logic behind shutting my mouth and complying with the city, but that's kind of what you get with Hyatt, consultations are covered at a flat rate, the lawyer gets paid whether he provides value or not, he did not really want to get in to the technicalities of what I'm doing which is the entire point, I plan to beat the city on a technicality

so I did pick up the 11' 6" x 19' 6" tarp from Harbor Freight and will hang tonight I guess, inspector will come tomorrow, based on our many conversations he'll "approve" the new "set up"

once he leaves I'll put the other tarp back up and simply wait for the complaint/citation/court date, etc.... because then I can prove that TARP size determines STRUCTURE size?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I'm sure any decent judge will recognize that a tarp is not a structure and that will be the end of it...OR I'll get fined and then I'll know a tarp is a structure, according to the city anyway

this little mod was not easy, fun, or free

the inspector came out and we spoke, he no likey

he say's it has to come down or the poles have to be 3' from the wall, I said, "well if I just take the tarp down then it's not in violation right?" he said yes, so the freaking tarp makes it a structure according to him

then he says if I can have my neighbor sign a common easement agreement then we can have an exception to the city code, but no one at the city can tell me where to get the forms, or what would be required in a letter

I spoke to some guy who enforces building codes as I tried to get this easement, once I explained it all to him, he was asking why this is a problem, he said very specifically I DO NOT have a structure over my workshop

this is absolute madness.....

AND THEN! while the inspector was here, he mentioned the current complaint is in regards to a back yard projection of an awning/thingy, he said "your thing is on the side yard, not the back yard" and I knew immediately the neighborhood @ss called in the sail shade I recently put over the pool in the back, and for a brief moment I wondered how he saw it. then I realized one of my backyard neighbor's houses is open for lease- it's unoccupied, that @ss went in to the backyard to see in to my backyard. God I wish I knew when he went back there. No witnesses....

I went over my wall with my ladder and locked the gate from inside the back yard with a bolt and nylon lock nut, on one hand I wanted to leave it unlocked and lie in wait for him to come through again but I just don't have the time or patience for it, I figure if the property owners come by they'll be able to access the yard through the house and can easily unbolt the gate, but this was a smart move anyway to keep those up to no good out of that yard

Last I checked about a month maybe 2 months ago, there was 38 acres just a bit North of Laramie, Wyoming for $12,000. Not land locked at all, but no idea if its suitable for building a house or anything. No idea if its on an area to drill a well. But one can have a ton of fun with that much acreage.

Just google common easement. I did the same for the apartments next to us when I was digging my sewer connection.

That's what i basically did. Keep it simple, one page. Hold neighbor's harmless, they should sign it.

well the inspector is acting like I cant create one, it has to be provided by the city, for which there is no such thing, they do have a variance I can apply for but I read in to that years ago, I simply wouldn't qualify for one and I'd have to spend $500 to find out "officially", OR, I can request for an interpretation for a mere $395 where a city expert would come out and certify for sure whether or not my tarp constitutes a structure. if I go either of those ways, or re-build it to keep it 3' from the property line, I concede that it is in fact a structure

I say no way is it a structure and I will simply get another citation, fight it, and allow the judge to interpret the tarp, if found guilty then I pay the $175 fine, I just LOVE bureaucracy

Here our township needs a stupid permit to even put up a shed in a box shelter. Just another way to make money.

I live in an unincorporated part of the county. Life is good. Need a shed? Build one. Need a sewer connection? Dig one.

County doesn't care at all? Guess the old lady and I need to look at unincorporated areas to move to instead of the outskirts of town. Could have way more fun with less hassle.

Can you park a travel trailer back there?

Get old travel trailer, gut it. convert into a overhang. no one would be the wiser.

Cant find any images of it. but you could also do like this and put all workshop in trailer. Park in front of complaining neighbor. move it daily from one side to the other of the street!! So not to get a ticket.

If you have time read this article http://www.latimes.com/socal/daily-...roblem-home-chapter-three-20170519-story.html it's long.

I will now refer to you as the "criminal tarp offender". I hope you don't fight the city for 20 years on this. althought looking through this guys pictures it was much worst then a tarp.

You could just start designing a patio cover and submit plans for a permit and build one!

neighborhood jerk is active again, he threw an egg at my old lady's car last night, know why? I joined nextdoor.com and posted his name and address, unbeknownst to me nextdoor defaults to displaying your address, you have to switch it to something more vague, anyway big deal, he's already been harassing me, I am going to install some serious cameras in the next couple weeks

on that note, who has a camera system they recommend? I need high res at night, my flood lights will assist but he's throwing eggs from beyond the motion sensor
