Didn't accomplish anything of note over the 3 day weekend. Was going to work on the snowmobile, but couldn't find the motivation. Do need to order spark plug boots and get them installed on the new CDI. But also need to get crowsfoot tools so I can pull the heads and installed new gaskets. Also means I need to get a piston ring compressor tool.

I'm waiting on a parts kit for a Walbro LMT carb. The riding mower it was installed on was fine until it started suddenly racing. It would not throttle down even with the throttle on "turtle". I was puzzled--checked the governor linkage for damage then consulted Youtube University. Found a video and then I just knew what it was. 😬 The throttle valve (butterfly) had disconnected from the throttle shaft. That means wide open throttle without governor control. The two screws holding it on had backed off and the valve ended up lodged in the intake. Wild! I guess one or both screws had vibrated loose and are either still in the cylinder, perhaps embedded in the cylinder head or the top of the piston, or have exited and are in the muffler.

Will remove the cylinder head to look for the screws, inspect, de-carbonize and replace the head gasket while I am in there. Briggs and Stratton 313707 0162-E1 010508ZE. 16.5 HP OHV.

Some of the misdiagnosed stuff is because advisors like to say, hey I think it's thise problem, or they just want to throw parts at the vehicle.

Thanks for the video WTR. (y)(y)(y)

Also, call me careless but I never thought much about the moderate coating of oil (and grass particles) coating a good portion of the cylinder and cooling tin/air diverter and figured it was due to slight weepage from the crankcase breather gasket or similar (plus old age) but it is most likely a blown head gasket. The engine smokes on startup but clears out in 20 seconds so I naturally thought it's worn piston rings and bore.

It's apparently well known with the B&S single-cylinder vertical shaft OHV engines, Intek or otherwise.

How do you guys handle project changes and interests? For years I've struggled trying to hone in on a singular project and bounce back and forth over the course of months over like 5 different projects, then do it that way for years. Never actually really starting on a project. Just ends up being all talk and next to no action.

I'm the guy who has 10 projects going(various hobbies) and get to them when I have more interest so I don't get bored or fatigued from one project or hobby. Just my 2 cents.

Dr. Feelgood's Sassafras Lintiment and Tincture was the bottle on the right.

That's the bottle the carpetbagger was using to house his snake oil... (The Outlaw Josey Wales 1976)
Watch it while it's free! I use an adblocker and it plays all the way through, no interruptions.

What ad blocker do you use? Is it a free one or a pay? I had a free one that worked for about 3 months and then it stopped.

Great movie BTW. But, I was raised watching all the old westerns, WWII and such movies as a kid in the 80's with my Grandpa and Dad. My dad still watches all the old western tv shows and movies weekly.

I'm on a Mac this time around but I use Ghostery and AdBlock, both free (I ain't payin for #@$*). It seems at times that YT is cracking down on adblockers and suddenly I see an ad once ....in ...a... while...? But that went away. I think you've got to experiment a lot to find what works for you.

EDIT: Some browsers block everything, is it Brave browser that comes to mind, among others?

I use a Windows PC in my garage with Firefox browser and a VPN, and have I-phone. I prefer my PC for forums and such. I try those 2 out and see what happens. I pay for the VPN, but damn near refuse to pay to block ads. I have enough subscriptions which I have slowly been weening off of!
