but go see an eye doctor and get glasses. I do like the design of the control arm though!
The problem is not the eyes. It's the brain.
Went to a octopumotologist or something, he says nothing he can do, there are some circuits that got fried.
And thanks!

That’s a drag man. If I lived closer I’d give you a hand. But I’m in Indiana. But as an immature amateur gynecologist who works in a hospital I’ve seen the human body do some weird stuff. Just hang in there and practice welding or teach a minion to do it?

Thanks man! It is what it is, l'm able to function, just need some help with the welding.
So lets not dwell on the down side.
Coulda been worse! I'm happy to be on the right side of the grass. On with life, for a while longer.
I'll try pouring more light on the weld area.
Thats easy enough for a stationary position, but gets cumbersome when moving 'round.

Welding tip:
You're the head engineer
...start delegating some tasks (like welding)

Fire Egor
...& "round up" a real apprentice

Maybe stop by & have a talk with the welding teacher at a local high school (trade school)

Maybe they can recommend a young fella (or lady) who's into makin' motorized stuff (like you)
...that could/would help ya out
...& in exchange, maybe you could share some of your wisdom :2guns:
or
At least "act like ya know stuff"
...could probably "snooker" 'em for a while...ya know :smartass:

Didn’t mean to turn it into a pitty party. I agree about finding a high school apprentice. That’s what I had to do when I had the golf kart business. No adults wanted the job. Actually very few kids did either, but a few did. They all went on to great careers making more money than I did/do because of what I taught them. And most still come around to see me. I like the magnifying lense or glasses idear too.

I have an idea. They should make a phone that is like a credit card, stiff but forgiving and super slim. Also make a "rice-krispy" cake out of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

There now, we are well on our way to world peace and/or domination, whichever comes first.

Sorry to hear about the health challenges! Realistically we are all dying some day, and the incremental, or major falls towards that kinda stink. But, I will say a few things:

The welds look good enough to me! They don't need to be pretty to work.
If you wanted to link up with a High School or College welding/racing club, I am sure you would get a few bites. Practically you could be more efficient running off of limited vision, but if you wanted to in-person teach, you would get some folks who would want to learn. Lastly, I heard this one recently, and it helped me lower my standards on a few things:

The 80-20 rule. Essentially 20% of the effort gets your 80% of the results. To get that extra 20% and push for perfection, you have to put in 80% of the work (or 4 times more). I say let it fly, have fun, and if you brake a weld, so be it. You will find out if thats the case! Haha

Ya know, thats dang good advice and what l have resigned myself to.
I say resigned, cuz l know l can do better, and there is the frustration.
Truth of the matter is. I isn't a competition rig. There is no inspection. Nobody is gonna see it outside of family and a few friends, so who cares?
I have no doubt it is solid and safe, and thats all that matters. I'lI concentrate on what l can do and let the goober welds fall where they may.
Its about the building.if l'm around long enough to finish, thats a bonus.
Thanks for reminding me.

Took the light idea and ran with it. Wasn'nt actual running, more like a crawl.
Anyway, got a pair of helmet lights.
Egor thinks thats purdy cool. He's going to put it on tonight and go to the village and look through small children's windows. He's such a joker!
IMG_5446.jpeg

Welded up the real copy of the upper control arm. I feel like i could see a little better.
the weld quality does not prove that out tho.
I'll try a little more light. I have a coupla 100 watt LED chips that are worth a try.
These sukkas put out some serious light.

A lotta heeat is generated so they need to be heat sinked. I had this reverse sink. The fins are on the inside of this 2x2 square aluminum tube.
found this lens for 'em.
l'll go to the pawn shop and look for a tripod to mount it on.
Stay tuned!

Are you stick or mig welding?
Tried mig and tig, with the same results.

Those welds are penetrating like champs, I would go with those without even a hint of reservation
Yeah the strength isn't really a concern, the appearance is. The frustration comes from the crappy appearance.
Maybe some body putty smeared over the welds to make em look smooth?

The welds look tough as nails and honestly don't look that bad. Paint will make a huge difference on appearance as well.

30% of my welds look like I'm dropping dimes, and the other 70% look like I'm dropping sh*t after a night of whiskey, beer and White Castle sliders!
