When getting familiar with these engines, it is a good idea to just change up one thing at a time. When you do a few things at once, it becomes harder to know what might have caused problems if problems come up. And you can go in reverse to see if you find something is wrong.
Putting the old flywheel on just to see if it works better is something I would try. My line of thought would at least cross “worked with old flywheel, now not so great with new… I should note that there was a part change that should be investigated”
Sometimes if I can’t figure my engine issue out, I just take it apart and put it back together. Sometimes it works and I swear I put it back the same way it was. Maybe I set the valve lash wrong. Maybe a flywheel key is broken and messing up my ignition timing. Maybe a rocker arm slipped off a push rod. Maybe you find something. Maybe you don’t find anything but get lucky. Maybe unlucky but you get engine rebuild experience.
I was kinda baiting you to give me a list of everything you’ve done.
What kind of exhaust do you have on it. I don’t think you ever mentioned a new exhaust and I just sort of assumed a free flowing exhaust with the free flowing air filter.
If you still have stock exhaust, maybe the 85 jet is too fat? I’m just spitballing now.
