My engine worked…

I did steps “A” through “X”

Now my engine doesn’t work.

How do I fix it?”

Undo what you did.

So your saying take the fly wheel an the big air filter off? Only other things I've done is set valve lash, set coil gap, and removed governor. I've played with the jets bit I only have two emulsion tube's to choose an 3 main jets.

I did not mean to imply you are stupid. Just not knowledgable. That can come with study and sticking around and asking questions. I in no way mean to make fun of you. Only of your situation. We see guys here who go out and spend a ton of money and throw all the latest do dads and gehaws on an engine and expect it to run right from the get go. It doesn’t work that way. All of those gehaws need to work together. That takes time, troubleshooting, and knowledge. You get the knowledge by keeping your moth shut and your ears and mind open. Ask intelligent questions and don’t be afraid to try things and fail.

When getting familiar with these engines, it is a good idea to just change up one thing at a time. When you do a few things at once, it becomes harder to know what might have caused problems if problems come up. And you can go in reverse to see if you find something is wrong.

Putting the old flywheel on just to see if it works better is something I would try. My line of thought would at least cross “worked with old flywheel, now not so great with new… I should note that there was a part change that should be investigated”

Sometimes if I can’t figure my engine issue out, I just take it apart and put it back together. Sometimes it works and I swear I put it back the same way it was. Maybe I set the valve lash wrong. Maybe a flywheel key is broken and messing up my ignition timing. Maybe a rocker arm slipped off a push rod. Maybe you find something. Maybe you don’t find anything but get lucky. Maybe unlucky but you get engine rebuild experience.

I was kinda baiting you to give me a list of everything you’ve done.

What kind of exhaust do you have on it. I don’t think you ever mentioned a new exhaust and I just sort of assumed a free flowing exhaust with the free flowing air filter.

If you still have stock exhaust, maybe the 85 jet is too fat? I’m just spitballing now.

Nice to know brother it gets a little foggy sometimes of what yalls motives are hear lol. An right that was my thing wife was already upset i spent 800 on the two go carts. An i wanted to but go fast parts ( what I thought would just be a Bolt on an run kinda thing) at cheep price I can't throw no more money at these things if I do. A long drug out wait to save would have to happen. An my boy wants to ride NOW. He honestly would probably be fine with the Ole stock 22mph or so. This had kinda become a hobby slowly for me... my brother, grandad an many of the guys in my family was wizards with motors. Some raced dirt track cars others go carts/dirt bikes. But while I was like 8. majority where passed an gone by the time i could have really started learning. Messing with this thing is one of the first interests I've kinda had as an adult. It's a kid go cart i know lol but just the act of doing it I feel my ancestors blood in me I feel like. The way I get a kick out of it actually working. The determination it gives me to keep trying. It's a nice distraction from life an problems also just fun to me in general.
In no way, shape or form am I trying to put you down. Nor am I trying to discourage you. We all started off the same way is what I’m trying to say.

That's good to know now but the exhaust is just old Amazon 1inch pipe with threaded end that did have a muffler witch was so ****ty all the welds fell apart (all my parts are cheap amazon) screwed on. But now it's just straight pipe witch was bought few months ago with my new clutch on tc. But that's the thing first day with new air intake an fly wheel she was SCREAMING running damn good.

Im sure the answer is somewhere in this thread. If you haven’t done a deep cleaning of the carb. Do that. Poke out every hole in every part of the carb. Pluck a thin wire out of a wire brush or use thick fishing line or something.

I posted that video of how to clean a carb because a dirty carb sounds like it could very well be causing your issues. You mentioned no fuel filter. No fuel filter = dirty carb. It happens. A spray with carb cleaner does not poke out tiny holes. You need to take the carb apart to clean it. Like in the video I posted.

Theres no point in doing anything at all until the carb is clean and poked through like an inmate in the prison shower.

Question for the gang:

What size fuel line do you use? I use that 1/4” stuff but sometimes struggle to fit it with clamp around carb inlet nipple. I assume 1/4” is overkill for most my applications.

Do most ppl use 3/16” ?
I see 3/32” and 1/8” being sold for small engines.
