Heads up........... The piston is flush with the cylinder up top with longer arc rod BUT it will not clear the block !!!!! I have already cleared it but haven't put it back in to try yet. Gotta clean it first and balance the crank. Found a buddy local that will do it at his machine shop.

Pic for reference prior to cutting the nub off with my dremel tool...........

Just that little tang thing?

Good to know!!!!

Vegas Carts Geoff Recommendation

I just ordered a VC 460, but Geoff had some recommendations you might want to consider for your build.

1) He recommended the LTZ400 clone carb, he said it was more responsive than the Keihin. I bought this one - http://www.ebay.com/itm/301952794316

2) They also posted this on their Facebook -
Starting in October, we will be increasing rod length to 4.51" from 4.45" and replacing the 9cc dish pistons with lighter flat tops. The extra rod length will reduce piston speed and the flat top pistons will provide better flame propogation in the combustion chamber.
Also, our new "Drop-In" 4.51" billet connecting rods are ready to run right out of the box and there is ZERO clearancing required to the cam, balance shaft, and crankcase. They will be affordably priced at $99.99 (90mm or 92mm flat top piston INCLUDED) for those who want to add power and reliability to their existing 420cc or 440cc clone and keep the costs in check!

So............have you tried reading the jet sizes yet that came with that koso carb ?????

Huh huh huh.......they're so small you can't read them cause they're not marked ! Just a heads up. I got one pilot jet that was marked and that was it out 3 mains and 3 pilots.

I have yet to open the box the engine came in.
I have not yet ordered the carb.

I suppose I will measure my bits with the caliper and poke and go from there.

I have my honda jets in labeled plastic bags.

So the arc 6274 rod fits when you turn it over by hand with a .020 MLS head gasket. BUT when you start it it doesn't fit !!! I took it back apart and th piston was sure enough hitting the cylinder head. Just barely but it was. I'm gonna regroup and get a regular .040 gasket and retry. I let you know how it goes. Oh yeah that 306 cam sounds mean FYI.

Rod's typically stretch a small amount under load dynamically, is the Arc rod aluminum?

I had this problem with a 22RE Toyota...

It's NOT rod stretch....it's something else. The rod / crank connection has clearance. The piston / rod wristpin has clearance....

Turning by hand..they stay centered...as the piston comes to TDC and changes direction...under power ...those clearances go to zero....just enough to kiss that head!

The piston top also grows with heat.

and set the piston rings.
IF I don't sleep til 5pm.

Look bob............... It's fixed buddy. And I still have the longer arc rod in it. This is all the way up.............

It's running so the only other thing I clearanced was the lip on the back of the block. The NR 306 cam is close but it clears without any issues. So I bet money that's the biggest cam you can run without clearancing something else.
