Well...tried a wire wheel to remove paint....(hard to get to it..and all it did was barely scratch the paint)....

So I pulled out the compressor and sandblaster....and all it did was discolor the paint!

Not sure what to do next....must be powder coated or something...I need to weld this wheel...maybe I'll just try it with the paint on?

Yeah..I was kinda thinking about it AND sandblasting before and after. Also...maybe just chamfering a bit with the next step on the unibit and seeing what that does.

I have an unopened can of aircraft stripper somewhere. Thanks

okay and i thought everyone was picking on me because of HF wheels and foam filler. Looks like Poboy thinks like me. Maybe i read through all his posts to learn what not to do? Or how to make the wrong parts work?

I like the drill press saftey. i have some propane tanks laying around. gas tank for my next project maybe. :) Just wondering what happened once the bit went through the tank? i dont think explosion if they are almost empty? Hacksaw should be good if its empty right? Or really small drill bit?

Unless it's sparking while drilling, no explosion...don't think it'll rip apart under pressure. But it is liquid propane...I'd burn up as much as possible before cutting into it. Of course I'm not adventurous enough to test this so...good luck.

Yeah...some folks thought I was crazy when I did it last time....but , just to be safe, I'm gonna use the drll press again....even though the chance of explosion is VERY low.

And...of course they're empty...or I'd use them to grill!

But...remember...I expected them to fail...just not get hurt in the process. I have a hand truck with semi pneumatic tires and one of them completely disintegrated on one side....I used foam and it got rid of the womp womp while rolling on the flat spot. What gave me the idea of using foam as a failsafe for the HF tires.

And...two things about the drill press....#1 it turns pretty slowly...reducing the chance of heat build-up...and #2, you don't have your hand right there should something weird happen....

It did exactly what I expected...just let a little pressure out of the nearly empty cylinder. I went ahead and let it air out for a day before I cut it on a chopsaw.

Hey....being a wild and crazy guy is fun....being a stupid one will get you hurt or killed.....

I didn't plan on putting the first layer of foam in while the the tire was mounted, either....Why I blew one up in the oven....I was trying to stretch it out....(didn't know if that was gonna happen or not) so that...(off the rim) it would have enough circumference...

Oh...I still think what I planned had some merit....I just had to move on...BUT...the merit was how futile and a waste of time and money it is to use these wheels...

HOWEVER....They are still going to be on the build! ........grab some popcorn....

Worked on that drive wheel conversion a bit this afternoon....got 3 of 6 of the spacer tubes done...and the hub drilled out...and then I spotted something red in my neighbors back yards....late this evening...I realized it's a sandblasting cabinet...so I want to see if his set-up might take the paint off that rim.

Need a cold saw or band saw. Both cut slow without Sparks and have cutting fluid constantly on the blade and metal allowing no chance of sparks.

As long as his compressor can keep up it will. I have an awesome compressor, crappy sand blaster, but it'll strip a truck frame. I use "Handy Sand" from the local home improvement. The stuff in the paper bag seems to be dry, unlike the stuff in plastic bag's.

Oh....he has the compressor....it'll probably eat that stuff off in no time, depending on what medium he has.

With a blast cabinet...you can afford the high dollar medium because it recycles.

You could file away a bit of the paint and then start welding, it will burn the rest away

Well...my neighbor...it turns out..is still assembling this brand new cabinet...he has been bouncing around a lot with the murder of his daughters husband....so..I'm kinda just waiting...

I'm thinking about an abrasive bit on a die grinder....but...kinda waiting on him.
