Since aluminum is soft, relatively. You might be able to get away with using wood working tools in certain situations.

I wont have time til next week. But I'm willing to sacrifice an old lawn mower engine just for kicks. That and a cheena brand spade bit.

lol, you would do that ? What size?

i think I have a some wood Spade and Forstner bits but i have no knowlege yet of taking out the valve guide area for drilling. i dont know if i need to use lapping compund around it for it to seal or if it just snaps in place.

I dunno who has the awfully strong witchcraft powers, lol, but it's pretty cool.
I'm guessing that long push rod I showed caused extra valve overlap which reduced compression.

_If I had to make a guess at the LSA of the stock cam it'd be either 106* or 107* . I forgot why but that's what's been in my head for the longest time.

Intake lash set at about .0025
Exhaust lash at .003
on the compression stroke of course.

I presume high octane is mandatory.?
The engine turns over like it was made for it.
I gave it a strong "baby" pull,it turned over "easily" with a little extra grunt.

That's EXACTLY the problem with a spade ( paddle bit...whatever) or a forstener bit. There is a protrusion (valve stem guide ) in the way...if the surface was flat...it would be easy.

And yes...almost any tools designed to cut metal can cut aluminum...and they actually will not dull very quickly.

They make valve spring seat cutters for drills. Not sure if they make em to fit small engines. Got to buy the correct pilot. 5.5mm for 212cc.

I'm currently trying to think of what to use to shorten the valve guides (inside the ports). That is why I mentioned the Forstner's bit.

I think a challenge is in order. First guy to make a functional spring pocket cutter for under $10. Using tools that you would expect to find at your average homeowner's home. That person should receive a girlscout cookie or something.

lol.
It isn't necessary right now but could come in handy at some point. Let me play with the standard lengths first. Although I am keeping the long push rod for later experimentations.

If I could use anything right now it would be the 5mm longer valve stems.

Message to ARC:

Thanks for not trying to severely screw me over on shipping prices like the other companies tried to do. Dynocams hit me with over $20 shipping, i even emailed them and its been over 2 weeks with no reply. and BMI shipping was over $24 just for push rods and valve springs.
Last month i sold non-hemi rocker studs in an ENVELOPE for only 2 stamps and they weigh about 4times more.
I bought from NR Racing about a year ago and they were fair priced as well so I will keep them on the good list (although I had to email them to ship my order).

That being said, here are the chromoly push rods with the ARC sticker in the picture :)

You see the benefits of treating your customers right? :)

i just noticed in the above picture the push rods appear to be different sizes. Rest assured both are the same length of 5.540" . The angle makes them look a different size.

Got some 92 octane.
Can see the ethanol-labeled blue fuel tint.
Guess i'll add a methyl/ethyl blend to it. Would that give me over 110 octane?
Since E-85 is 105 octane and methanol is even more resistant to detonation and they blend together making a denatured alcohol(but the denatured alky i have is a 50/50 mix) PLUS the 92 octane infused fuel, i'm guess at least 100 octane.

Something to contemplate with hardware store chemicals. I've looked at a few msds sheets. Some of that stuff is up to 20% water. Alcohol and water like to mix. Thats why I drink lots of water.

My particular source pertained to the KleanStrip brand.
If only there was E-85 over in my area. Not even close.

Very true about alcohol mixing with water and causing it to look funny through a clear glass. and taste bad. So, KIDS! Dont steal your parents alcohol and water it down thinking your parents won't notice because it makes it taste bad.

Those that have made it this far and are truly interested in this portion of fuel tuning I suggest researching about methanol and its' power benefits. and/or ethanol.

That's an odd looking milk jug.

Haa. Yeahh. This site is such a pain some times to get them to upload correctly. Definitely not on my end. [ removed pic, rotated, reuploaded , FAIL, re-attempt several times, (x . x) All sideways.] It's like trying for the lottery.

Reduced ignition timing today. Now back at the stock 24degrees and not 30* . I wonder when it is necessary to reduce timing even more.
Only for boost reasons? Heavy boost? Light boost? (2-5 psi?) .

Getting ready to pull the starter. Experimenting with adding octane to fuel with denatured alcohol.
Mixes perfectly like it was meant to be.
Starts with a chemical reaction, a little bonding action goes on, and no separation. Ready to fill the tank and pull the cord.

As the records show I have not been advised to go against what I have done the past few days and what I am about to do.

135psi compression
8.5 compression ratio
92 octane gasoline with some added denatured alcohol to boost octane a few points.
24 degrees ignition timing
Starting it now.
