get a pair of good gloves man like mecanix ones cause metal shavins can be pretty nasty.

Yep, One day at the shop I was machining some steel plate bearings made for industrial gas turbine engines and after every plate machined I would have to remove the plate from the chuck, blow the chippings out from the chuck and remove the string filings from the cutter head, One day one string filing was being stubborn and I didn't have a glove on I grabbed it and yanked on it and man, It cut me wide open!

Those nasty filings!

I believe the correct term is "chips", job isn't just dealing with chips, could be doing other cleaning type stuff and general help. I might know whats up tomorrow, guy has to think.

"Chips" are usually from the mill where string like filings do not form. On the lathe the materiel does not "chip" from the tooling. It comes off in long strings usually, And are very sharp.
